Welcome to the Magic Café. We are looking forward to hearing from you. How have you seen magic change in your lifetime? Do you think it is headed in the right direction?

When I first started EVERYONE had to do a stage act. Now it's all close-up. Good stage acts are few.
Why ?
Jut a sign of the times I suppose.
75% of the work is close-up. Restaurants , cocktail hours. etc.,
This will make you think. It came from an agent.
Four actors in Hollywood. No idea other than how to charming and present themselves; went to a magic store each got some three tricks each Got the shop asistant to teach them the 'how' All three tricks different from the other guys ; went out hiring themselves as 'The Four Aces" or some such name at $500 for the four . Each went around doing their three tricks. Other than that no idea about magic. Next they'll have robots or chimps doing it !!!

It's sad but true. I have known some to learn a couple of tricks and then go out and book themselves at less than half the price that experienced magicians / entertainers are charging. It hurts magic and the ability for hard working magicians to keep their wages up. This is also happening in music. The acts play once for dirt cheep and in turn turn club owners off of the idea of hiring live entertainment.
Thanks for your thoughts.
