How do you think your comedy magic compares to someone like The Amazing Johnathan? It seems to me that a lot more thought goes into your routines. Where he is more into the silly shock value magic. I just wondered what your thoughts are on this.
P.S. Don't get me wrong I think A.J is great at what he does. I just want to know Mr. McComb's opinion on this type of comedy magic. -Dan

First of all AJ is a multi-millionaire so whatever anyone thinks...he's right.
His stuff is very in-your-face. And he has built up a huge following after the style of the "Rocky Horror Show" where folks bring others to see various favorite bits. I tend towards taking classics which I try to update and I put in various physical gags which I think are funny and hope others will too. In my 18 mins with his show I Produce and Vanish a cig and do the SlowVanish B-cage...so you see there is a lot of verbal and prop comedy.

I've seen AJs act a number of times. I used to watch him (four times) on the comedy club circuit while he was still honing his material in the 1980s. I've only seen videos of Billy, but I think there's a distinct difference (I'm a fan of both).
AJ uses magic, but it is really a vehical for comedy. Billy, I believe, mixes in much more magic, invents his own effects, etc. Incidentally, AJ used to use a lot more magic in his act. I may be wrong here, but I think both Billy and AJ would agree that it's a real matter of personality. Billy is the refined gentleman, while AJ is the class clown who does immitations of Vietnam Vets having flashbacks during his vanishing dollar routine. |
