If they choose the wrong card, say, "Don't look at it yet" but time this so that they are already looking.
Take the card back and say, "Just cut the cards" (use the cut force). Say, "I'll turn around so there's no way I can see your card. Please turn it over and look at it." Now you can go into your routine, and it seems like you were trying to make it impossible for you to have seen their card. tdaube |

I came across this in an old issue of Magic: if they haven't looked at it yet, you can also control the force card to the top and do a top change.

I'll second Frank L.'s. Was looking at the Top Change in "Card College" today and Giobbi mentions the change after the Hofz Cull as a nice out. Take care
