Hello jugglers aswell as magicans. I have been thinking about a routine I would like to get some feedback on.
1. The performer places a red light source on the stage, could be a flashlight with a red filter or whatever. Introduces the light as "X" - in my case - Arkadian light. 2. Talkes about the strength of the energy and how you really can feel the Arkadian light, and even pick it up. Takes a portion of the light with the fingers and transfering it back and forth between the hands. (d'lites) 3. Doing a d'lite routine perhaps to music. 4. Picking up a white ball and lighting it with the Arkadian light from the fingertips. (Glowballs) Introducing two, three (whatever the numer you´d like to juggle) glowballs and lighting them with your fingers. Allways transfering the light from the source through the air with your fingers to the ball. 5. Doing a juggling routine with the balls. 6. Turning them off one by one and finaly turing of the source. You could do the same with Mr. Babaches fireballs and the effect "Flame at fingertips" What do you say? /Ark

Hi Ark,
Sounds good. I would work on the intro of the Arkadian light. I wouldn't just walk on stage and say 'this is Arkadian light, see how great it is'. Have the light flicker on to the sound of soft music, then off stage in your best 'James Earl Jones' voice introduce it. Then come on stage and do your routine all to music. Will you be using AeorTech Glo balls? Their new ones are programmable, so you can make them glow as normal, or strobe, change colour etc. You turn them on by taping them, which would help you in this routine as you won't have to search for buttons or switchs. Good luck with it and I hope this has been of some help, even if you now know what you don't want to do. Roslyn

Thanks for the tip Roslyn.
The act I have in mind will be set outdoors so I don´t have a stage in the regular way. Though I would never, ever just say "This is Arkadian light - get it" but just as you said introduce it. Perhaps with a funny story. Defenetly with the voice of James Earl Jones! I am using my regular red glowballs. They are nice and have a lovely glow. The AerTech sounds great, shorely they must cost you a fortune? Tapping would be nice. Well well, I stick with the ones I own. I am thinking about music and have an idea which is "Electro smog theraphy" which is a mix of a song made by the german group Einstürzende Neubauten. Perhaps someone has a better idea. /Ark

I use Firefly fire juggling balls, the idea sounds cool but the balls can be tricky to light.

Firefly, is that the ones with nets and a small torch in the middle? If so, they probably are a bit difficult lighting. I would use some flash paper to get rid of the problem. Should work.

Just to be picky it's Fyre Fli. You can grab em from http://www.fyrefli.com
Chris is a great guy and has come up with a load of neat stuff. Like the worlds only rubber fire diabolo. And they work too, which is a bonus. Oh and the aerotech balls can be seen at http://www.globall.com Well worth a peek. Ark, I've only just noticed that you are from Sweden. Will you be attending the EJC this year? Roslyn Roslyn

Roslyn,
I would like to attend, but I have way to much to do this summer. The EJC seems like such a good convention to go to. Ark

The routine you described is kind of complicated. I would break it up into smaller parts and perform each part in my show separately. Then when I knew all the parts worked, (meaning the audience was entertained) I would start putting the parts back together and performing those in the show. A complex routine like that can take some time to get working. That does not mean it is bad. It will just take time and effort.

Hi Arcadia. Some thoughts.
Instead of going Flashlight - D'Lite - Glowing Ball/Juggling, I would rework it so that you end with the D'lite...it is more magical. I imagine an introduction to the power of red lights (maybe speak of the wave/particle properties of light if it suits you), progress to a beautiful juggling routine to music (perhaps with a spacey or spiritual sound), and then put the light from each ball back into the source, one by one. On the last ball, pluck the light out of the ball and go into a D'Lite routine. Possibly end the routine by taking the light (D'Lite) and placing the light inside an acrylic ball. This creates a beautiful amd magical glow. Blow on the ball and have the light go out. Although I understand ending a routine with juggling as being bigger and more climatic, ending with the plucking and extinguishing of light seems to bring the story to a more satisfying conclusion. Of course, it depends on what you want to do. If you are working a street show, you need a big ending... On stage you have the space to bring the energy back down. I have done some glowball juggling on the stage to some great success. I have a bit on my promo video. You can check it out at http://www.flowcircus.com/visuals/video/video.htm/ Hope some of my thoughts are useful. -P -P
