I am 37 years old living in Upstate, NY. I was really into magic when I was a kid... I didn't know a lot of effects, but the mysteriousness of the magical trades enchanted me. So many of my favorite childhood memories revolved around magic or magical themes... I remember watching Bill Bixby's "The Magician" and thinking how cool it would be to do the things he did... What a weird show! Did anybody ever see it? Well, I loved it and can remember scenes to this day.
I lost my interest in magic in my teens... Music, partying and girls took over. ;-) But in January of 2004 I visited Las Vegas and was surprised to find so many magic shops... I bought a few tricks - "Hopping Halves" and a Svengali deck - and that was that... Now I'm going nuts trying to learn all I can about technique, presentation, etc. I don't know if I ever plan on performing semi-pro, but I do have a blast entertaining my friends and family, and strangers when the opportunity presents itself. I'm really amazed at how much the technology of magic has advanced since I was a kid... the effects and methods are really astounding these days. Right now I'm really into mental effects. I like them most because there's always that possibility that you CAN somehow, some way read another person's thoughts or forsee the future. In fact, my favorite effects are when the spectator does the magic... What's better than that, than to help somebody recognize their own magical potential? Anyway, after just five months back into it, I think I'm progressing ok... I sometimes feel frustrated that I can't do some of the fancy sleights (or even simple ones... my double lift sucks!), but then I do something simple like an 8 card brainwave and remember that the magic is not in the method, but in the mind... and not just the mind of the spectator, but in my mind also. If I believe magic is happening, it's much more likely that they'll believe it, too, then we share that moment. Ok... that's enough. Time to browse! |

Tough choice; magic or music, parties, and girls. Well, not really, but welcome to the Café.
