It was some 3 weeks ago or so since I posted on another cyber message board that I would be working there and invited magicians to come and meet. As I don't know many of the magicians in the area -- being a wayward street magician -- I thought this a reasonable request to the fraternity. Well, I didn't meet anyone, that is to say magicians may have come to see me perform, but if they did, they didn't bother to introduce themselves as such. I guess that'll teach me a lesson I won't soon forget.
Boulder has undergone some changes in the 5 years that I've been absent from the scene. You can no longer work the Pit, thanks to some inconsiderate performers. It was a great pitch, so sad to see it go. All the same I worked it successfully for several shows risking a 100 dollar fine to do so. Some of the older boys are still there thankfully, performers like the zip code man (David) and Kenny with his little love bird -- he slays them with his card scaling and that magic square. Some new guys that I'd not run across before. No new magicians though. So where are you guys? Hiding out at home practicing your invisible pass (which is invisible, to be found in the pages of ECT)? Or, are you perhaps content to entertain a few tableside while David Blaine redefines the Street Magic genre in the eyes of the public? Or where some of you lurking in the background of my crowds, ever critical of my Cups and Balls routine perhaps? Truthfully, I don't know and don't really care. My audiences were amiable, enjoyable and dare I mention, profitable. I guess some magicians will never know what they're missing. Too bad, for it's their loss. I suppose they can rest easy in the warm comfort of their self proclaimed fame. As John R. would say, "Onward...!" |

One day, you’ll hit somewhere near me and I’ll get to see your act. Baltimore or DC would be close (only a couple of hours away).
Unlike other magicians, I’ll identify myself and talk your ear off! I am not a big critic of working magicians and do appreciate good work! Looking forward to the day!

Come to Ohio, and I will certainly catch your show, and introduce myself.
Maybe you posted the original message to the wrong board Generally, unless performers are "well known" by someone local, it is hard to gather magi to watch them. I tried to get folks in this area to sponsor a Jim Cellini lecture and I hardly got a yawn out of them. They didnt know who he was! And since I am a bit of a rebel, they dont often pay much attention to me. And egos certainly come into play. The thinking of many, why should "I" go see "him"? I actually sat in a local IBM ring meeting prior to Peter Marrucci visiting on his lecture tour, and a couple of the guys who have been around for quite a while (15-20 years in magic), started carping "who is Peter Marrucci, yada, yada" These folks, wont go see someone unless they are sure they are "big names", and in my opinion, that is why these guys will never be "names" themselves. They are done learing. And when you ae done learing, you are DONE! Anyway, now that I have vented, I hope you meet others in you area who share your interest in street magic. I wish there were more here too! BroDavid

I have been known to go out of my way to see a street performer, but Co. is a bit far as I'm in Philli If you get east towards NY,NJ or PA. and give notice I'll do my best. (the last two I went out of my way to see never showed and or left way early )
So I doubt you were snubbed, just bad timing.

Yes Peter! They Know Now!
I know that I learned a lot and enjoyed it as well. I was just looking over the notes I picked up from you last night. And have already recommended your no gimmick scotch and soda to a number of people. Oh Well! Nothing enters as closed mind. Guess they dont need to worry about "filling their brain" too soon. Eric,
I appologize I did not see your post. I would have enjoyed seeing you perform and getting to know another member of the magic Cafe community. If you are in town again I would be very happy to meet you and discuss magic. |

Eric,
I'm on the right coast. Should you make it our way (around the VA, D.C., MD) I'd consider it a "HOOT" to watch you perform. Keep us up to date. Maybe some day. Till then keep the crowds large and the hats fat. Doug

Many thanks for the welcome guys. It's nice to receive such a positive response from my peers.
I and my family are back home now in sweltering S. Texas gearing up for TAOM in Fort Worth. If any of you are planning on attending the convention there on Labor Day weekend would you let me know? I realize that for most of you, the trip is again perhaps prohibitively distant, but all the same, on the off chance that one or more of you will be there, I'd like to know (I'll be on my best behaviour, I promise).
