Both Slydini's Revolve and the looped coin were mentioned early on, as was Downs Palm, the fun stuff in the back of Downs' MCM and the JWGrip.
Still surprising that the Fickle Nickle took all day to make the list. Does a JWGrip transfer look good under cover of a wrist snap/shake? I mean can it look like the coin was so shaken it went transparent?

Hi Guys , as you all know I am very serious about coin magic , as much as everyone here. I have been researching one hand coin vanishes for over a Wk now , with the help of old books , new books , videos , DVD'S , magician friends and of course my friends here on the Café ( you guys ... THANKS )
I am trying to compare a very unique one handed coin vanish that I have come up with ... to perhaps one similar if it exist .. in the past or present. May I ask ? if any one has any knoledge of this vanish I am describing ... could you please let me know ..( THANKS A MILLION ... most of all thanks for your time ) OK ... here it is .....SLEEVES UP , Using a silver Dollar in my case ... however a half dollar will do as well! Take the coin at the tips of your first finger and thumb ( a little more thumb than finger on coin , not much ) ... Coin is held in front of you with either face towards the spectator ( heads or tails ) ...... OK .. your first finger and thumb are horizontal as they hold the coin , so if the coin is released , it will fall to the floor , not in your hand. .... 2nd , 3rd , and 4th fingers are sleightly curled in a natual position ...... OK NOW! here is the VANISH .... The hand holding the coin is absolutely still while the spectators are highly encouraged to look directly at the coin ..... NOW! try to understand this .... THE COIN JUST VANISHES IN A BLINK OF THE EYE .. leaving a small emty space between the 1st finger and thumb ..... PLEASE NOTE... upon the execution of the vanish ..... "THE HAND AND FINGERS SHOW NO MOVEMENT AT ALL." IT IS AS THOUGH THE COIN INSTANTLY DISSAPEARD .. SO THE FACT IS WE HAVE NO MECHANICAL ACTION GOING ON WITH OUR FINGERS OR HAND DURING THE VANISH. THE VANISH APPEARS TO LOOK LIKE TRICK PHOTOGRAGHY IN A REAL LIFE SITUATION. .. Following this , the hand is shown empty. PLEASE NOTE: what makes this vanish different is the " FACT " that no mechanics (MOVEMENTS) are used in the hand or fingers ... MAKING THIS VANISH LOOK IMPOSSIBLE ... Kinda like on the show I DREAM OF GENII ... WHEN GENII BLINKS SOMETHING AWAY ....It'S INSTANTLY GONE. I have been developing this sleight for some time now. THE SECRET LIES HEAVILY IN THE MECHANICS , MAKING THIS POSSIBLE ..... So REMEMBER !IT'S TRUE WE HAVE NO MOVEMENT IN THE HAND OR AT THE FINGERS ... " HOWEVER " ... WE HAVE SERIOUS MECHANICS GOING ON ELSE WHERE. Thanks you very much for reading this ..... PERHAPS SOMEONE MAY HAVE HEARD OF SUCH A ONE HANDED COIN VANISH ... AND IF SO ..COULD YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW. FOR THE RECORD ... LOL / PLEASE NOTE, I SPEAK ONLY THE TRUTH IN COIN MAGIC AND TAKE MY WORK EXTREMELY SERIOUS. THANKS A MILLION, YOUR VERY GOOD FRIEND, MICKEY SILVER Ps- if I can ever help you, please ask! |

I just saw Geoff Williams lecture the other night and he had what was called the "Miracle Coin Vanish". This was beautiful.
I'm not a coin man but I loved it. I also second Jim Pace's "Parallel Sleeve Vanish", every time I see it it is amazing. Seth |

There's a move that is getting popular again which offers something close.
The sleight amounts to using the fingertip of the second finger to sweep the coin down from the vertical plane and and under the thumb into the horizontal plane. This is about equivalent to the Bertram Snap Change with cards, and is fun when using a half ] As to the credits etc, not sure if it dates back before my time using coins. The thing is written up in an issue of Apocalypse and there seemed no prior claims at the time. A third finger variation was kept tight back then, as it allows one to take a retention pass move directly into the Roberts sleeving move. Nice to hear mickey has something new.

If I'm picturing it correctly, this sounds a lot like the move Al Schneider refers to as the "Snap Back Vanish" (Al Schneider on Coins, p.18). In the book, he states that the move as he describes it isn't that useful in a "serious" routine. However, in playing with it, I stumbled upon something very close to the sleight Kainoa Harbottle refers to as "Retention Pass to Edge Grip 1" (Coins on Edge, p.7). I occasionally use my own amateur interpretation of this vanish one-handed, as I raise a coin to my lips to blow on it. Done quickly but without jerking, the coin just sort of "pops" out of existence. Cheers, Cy. |

"Vanish in Air" http://www.newmagicsecrets.com/ as mentioned above by mattisdx is a nice $7 download. I can't imagine why you'ld need another move...it is so simple and clean. There can be an angle issue but...
after very little fooling with the move there are variations will will come to you naturally. Keeping the palm OPEN and just turning it over towards the spec to Vanish the coin keeping the palm visible the whole time! And as I mentioned in another thread somewhere...within the hour I was using it to vanish a Quarter, Nickle and a Dime at the same time. Wearing a T-shirt with no sleeves. Pretty sweet. Doug

Mind if I join this? A one handed coin vanish? Well, outside of sleeving, there's the wilson grip which produces an awfully good vanish, especially if you can snap your fingers. Witness Ogawa's DVD. I have a couple of vanishes utilizing that grip. Also a more old fashioned method plus one that resembles Cornelius' Fickle Nickel sequence which I haven't released as yet. cheers
Cheers...Imagination can make magicians of us all.

Mind? we're honored!
A late addition: Jim Lewis' one-handed vanish that he uses for the last coin "through the glass table". Mickey: please say that your OHCV will be part of your much-anticipated DVD?

I have seen John Carney do his version of the Ross Bertram one handed vanish and reproduction. I forget the name of the sleight in Bertram's book, but it is great.

John Carney's One Handed Vanish in his two coin hanging coins routine (forgot the name) is by far the best I've seen.

It is an old thread, but I hope it is okay to resurrect it. Spoontang's video encoragaged me to do a 3-fly using sl*****g for the last coin. Does anybody know if this is a modified version of dr Robert's method from Bobo or something else?

Welcome to the Café Bj.
WOW! When Mickey Silver first asked this question back in 2004, I hadn't done this yet. But along the lines you ask of here, perhaps this could be used. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfso1HfDEj0

Gary Kurtz does mention Geoff Latta in the video of his Trio. Also--JOnathan Townsends one hand vanish from his fingertip coins across(cant recall what he calls it, but I bet he will know) is quite clever and magical. I have one I developed but I don't want to show off.

? My notes just have it as "a one handed coin vanish". Also please be aware that way back when Saturday gatherings were at the Governor Caféteria Geoff Latta asked me to keep his one handed vanish (I did not know he called it a French Pop till years later) and his Nowhere Palm a secret so my work, including the version fo that vanish that uses NP instead of FP, had to stay quiet (ie no showing to magicians or publishing).
There's also a pivot style vanish (a take) into NP - but again that's for after Geoff's work hits print.
