While it remains to be seen whether the coffee can beat that of the almighty Starbucks, I’m glad to be a new arrival at the Cafe.

I’m a 25-year-old full-time professional magician in the Houston area. I perform for both children and adults, with experience mostly in stand-up work for private events. I DO perform some close-up magic, usually in a walk-around situation, but still consider myself a beginner in this area in terms of experience.

Most of my focus in the past few years has been on polishing my acts for children and agressively marketing the acts in the Houston birthday party and school show markets.

I’m at a point now where I’m trying to do two things:

1. Research effects for a new (and more flexible) stand-up adult show that I can market to businesses, and, in particular, to churches.

2. Continue to gain experience with close-up magic and try to polish my current material while looking for new "workers."

Of course, I have further goals for my magic career, but those are my primary areas of attention right now.

I am a member of SAM, IBM, and the FCM (Fellowship of Christian Magicians).

Outside of magic: I do some occasional acting work, regularly patronize the many community theaters in Houston

(Quick Fact: Houston is second only to New York in number of theater seats),

foolishly pretend to know a thing or two about effective graphic design, and I attempt to follow the crazy world of Apple Computer, Steve Jobs, and the most important machine to ever be invented for creative professionals: The Macintosh.

Oh yeah, I also go hiking and camping whenever I get the chance.

Anyway, that’s where I’m coming from.

As you can probably tell, I get very little sleep... so I intend on ordering quite a bit of coffee from The Cafe! (In keeping with the virtual metaphor.)

I look forward to being an active part of the community...

Welcome aboard, Alan.

If you are looking for new "workers", you might want to take a look at my ungimmicked Scotch and Soda.

The routine appeared in my Showtime column in the Linking Ring magazine about four or five years ago. But if you (or anyone else) would be interested in reading it, e-mail me privately and I'll e-mail you back the routine.

cheers,

Peter Marucci

Hi Alan,

Welcome to the Cafe! So glad to have you joining us for a cup of java.

Just don't touch the salt shakers! Tom Cutts keeps performing the Passe Passe Salt so there's never anything in them when I need to use them! Smile

You sound like quite a busy guy. Good for you! I'm looking forward to hearing your input and chatting with you specifically about magic for the Church venue.

WELCOME!

Welcome Alan Smile

Glad to meet you, even if only electronically. Perhaps at a future FCM convention (or at the IBM convention if you'll be there). I'm looking forward to learning from your experiences - and hope I can be of some use to you, too.

A Vernon latte - that would be a TRIUMPH, eh, PROFESSOR?
