Brandy. Showy Chefs flame desserts by dipping their fingers in brandy and flicking the fire into the pan. It does get hot so be VERY careful. A cotton ball in a film container soaked with brandy should do the trick.

Put some saliva in your fingers and after some zippo fluid or alcohol (not to much though),you should be able to light a cigarette or too before its gets too hot,the simplest method.

There are marketed effects out there that simulates this effect. Please do a search and refrain from crazy experiments. I have "professional" friends who has been doing fire magfic for more than a decade , commit freak accidents. This is dangerous stuff guys! Check out Fire alarm from mack magic and there is one I unfotunately forget that has a reservoir and a flasher . You dip your thumb in the reservoir {which is finger palmed} then strike the flint on the way up. Well something like that.
At any rate, be careful guys. Your hands are your tools. You also don't want to injure others. Rannie

I bought flash paper but I am now not only unsure about how I should use it but whether I should. (Thanks to reading the many warnings about fire on the magic Café post on rules and etiquette) :-(
Any tips on how to make even flash paper even safer? Thanks Paul
Many Blessings!!

Before it reaches your fingers, release it in mid-air. It will look like it just vanished in thin air.. Oz does this in the preview of Flash Bills in http://www.penguinmagic.com

Sorry but Frostgale`s advice may not be the best solution here. I would not try this, to be honest.

Bottom line on this effect for restaurant work is DON'T!
After the Great White debacle (where a lot of people got dead because of a screw up with the pyrotechnics), the Fire marshalls in every city in the country are waiting to pounce on any violation of the fore codes. Setting yourself on fire, even as a trick, would be considered such a violation - not to mention that someone at another table, seeing you with hand ablaze, might very well soak you with any available liquid! If they make the wrong choice of liquid (eg a high alcohoc content cocktail) you could go up in flames for real - or, at best, go home soggy. Please think about what your reaction to someone standing at another table with his hand on fire before you even attempt this stunt! Lee Darrow, C.H.

Excellent point Darrow! That response actually made me rethink how fire magic should be handled and performed.
