Congrats on your first time. I look forward to hearing more.
I disagree with Peter about opening with a card effect. It truly depends on what card effect. Chicago Opener(red Hot mama) is a wonderful opener. I use Steve Freeman's Time Traveler and get great reactions. All the magic happens in your hands even though a card is selected. Here in America I get asked about David Blaine alot. Think through what you would like to say to a question you would ask a magician. In regards to what Ten Card Rows said about women and men, it is certainly insightful but not always accurate. Again think of how you would feel if it was you sitting there. Be polite and engaging. Make them feel at ease. The more you do this the better you will become at reading people. You will make mistakes. Take the opportunity to learn from them and share them with us. Eugene Burger refers to magicians as an " extension of the hospitality of the restaruant." Keep that in mind when performing. Do you do the $ 100 bill switch? I have always gotten a good reaction out of that. As a chaser have the mismade bill if requested to do it again. Somewhere back in the stream someone mentioned Anniversary waltz. It is great for couples. I use Martin Lewis' Undivided. It is simple, direct and usually draws attention from other tables. WHen doing it for kids I refer to the papers as perm papers ladies use when putting a permanent in their hair. For packet tricks I recommend Color Monte and B'wave. Fun engaging and easy to do. Torn and restored cards are also very popular, ie. Hollingworth's version or ripped and restored. Destination unknown is a great way of getting a number of people involved. I wish you continued success. PS PM me if you have questions about any specific effects I have mentioned.
