Yes, Cesar is correct, it was an fantastic event.
My sincerest thanks to Mike, David, Geoff, and Mike. Seeing this much great coin work in one day was unforgetable. I saw 4 very different styles and presentations - plenty to think about for a long time. Seeing these "live" performances was far superior to a DVD. (I was doubly lucky to sit next to Mike Rubinstein at dinner, where he continued my education with some great coin work!!!) Words do not do justice to this event - the amount of knowledge each expert gave was fantastic. I hope it happens again - I'll be there!!! Do not even hesitate if you ever gets a chance to get to attend this event - you will not be dissapointed!!! Thanks Mike, David, Geoff, and Mike - I really appreciate all your efforts that made this event so great. Ted |

I know what you mean, Ted. With Mike on my left at the dinner table and David Roth on my right, I think I injured my neck trying to watch and listen to both of them!

I would also like to extend my thanks to Geoff, Michael,David, and Mike for an unfortgettable day. I will literally spend years going through the material you taught plus the material in the lecture notes you gave. The selfish part of me does not want this to happen again so that the 8 of us who attended will be the only recipients of this incredible teaching experience. 8 students, 4 teachers, a pretty good ratio.
My wife asked me if it was worth it as soon as I got back. I had two answers: Plane trip to NY--$260 2 nights hotel--$300 The event--$500 Spending the day getting personal, hands-on instruction from each of these four, listening to their stories, getting advice on many things magical, learning their opinions, and making their acquaintance--priceless. The other answer is, they gave great value, whether it actually ends up being worth it depends on how much time, effort, and attention I give to the material and information I received. Gene |

I'll fifth that. What an incredibly wonderful, intense experience. First, the seminar was extremely well organized and David, Geoff, Michael and Mike were so professional yet created an informal environment where we could ask questions and get advice on any aspect of coin magic.
It has also provided me with a good foundation to continue practicing and to expand upon what I learned. I can't say enough good things about the day. Absolutely worth the money and something I would do again in a second. David, Geoff, Michael and Mike-thanks for a great day, great performances and incredibly helpful personal instruction. Must go as practice awaits. Thanks again. David |

It must have been amazing for those of you who could and did attend. You guys have experienced something that the rest of us can only wish we had experienced as well. I hope you all learned a great deal, and take away some seriously unique and enjoyable memories.
I think I speak for everyone who could not attend when I say, "I really hate you guys right now." Best, Mike |

Just so you know, after writing up my observations offline, I came here to post them, only to find that Ted’s thoughts on
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......rum=31#0 almost exactly echoed my own (although I’m afraid I’m a little more verbose than he is!). I briefly considered trashing my whole write-up, but decided to just go ahead and post it anyway. So, at the risk of sounding redundant, here it is... First of all, allow me to express my sincerest and most heartfelt thanks to Mike Rubinstein, David Roth, Geoff Latta, and Mike Gallo for putting together a truly exhilarating and informative seminar. The only thing that could possibly have made it better was if it had gone on for a second day. Or a third... All four of our hosts are extremely genuine, down-to-earth guys; who, in spite of the pedestal we put them on, don’t have a pretentious or condescending bone in their bodies. And just as much as we admire them, they admire the greats who came before them. I had the opportunity to spend some one-on-one time with each of them, and whether we were discussing coin magic, pop culture, or the World Series, talking to them was as comfortable as talking to an old friend. (And it’s encouraging to know that even THEY drop a coin once in a while. Yes, they’re human beings.) Mike Rubinstein never seemed to tire of demonstrating his routines for us. Not only was he willing to perform them during dinner, but he actually snuck one more in for me as we were saying our good-byes at the end of the night. The personal instruction he gave me on his famous ROPS move was invaluable. And his new “Twilight Zone” routine is a stunner! David Roth brought some wonderful video footage of some of the masters of coin manipulation, including Slydini and the professor, Dai Vernon, performing a beautiful (and funny!) Miser’s Dream. In addition to being an incredible coin manipulator, David is also a great storyteller. I particularly enjoyed the one about the (blonde?) Playboy bunny who thought the clinking sound she heard during a click pass was a mistake by the performer. Oh, and David’s Retention vanish is even more incredible in real life than it is on video. It doesn’t matter how close you are to him or what angle you’re at; you’ll swear he’s putting that coin in his hand. I’ve enjoyed learning and performing some of Geoff Latta’s work for years, but I now know that I never really “got” it, until I saw him perform it live. He executes his sleights with a natural casualness and mastery of misdirection that, even KNOWIING the moves, I couldn’t follow those darn coins! His new stuff was even more remarkable. Mike Gallo is a really super guy who was gracious enough to fly in from Buffalo for the event. Other than the Gallo pitch, I wasn’t familiar with his work going in, but was completely blown away by his routines, five of which he put onto an exclusive video for the attendees. Mike’s approach differs slightly from the others’ and it was interesting to see a new take on some classic effects. One of his routines was so amazing, I couldn’t wait to get home and start making the gaff. The amount of material they provided us with was enormous. Upon our arrival, we were each given a portfolio just chock full of material. Among other things, it contained “Secret Stuff” – a collection of unpublished sleights and routines by Michael Rubinstein. I’ll never do a standard click pass again. Coins across, coins through the table, Wild Coin, and Spellbound routines were all major focuses of the day. I came away from the event, not only with a plethora of new material, but with a better understanding of the philosophy and psychology of coin magic as well. If they ever put on a seminar like this again, you can bet that I’ll be first in line! |
