Here is the description btw:
What the spectators see: You take one card, fold it in half, and tear out the middle of the card. From the frame you have left, you tear out a new inner frame. Now you have two frames from one card. Fold the last frame around the "leg" of the first frame. Let go and the frames link into each other!! One card has linked onto itself!! Are they really linked together? YES THEY ARE!! Can you give them out in linked condition? YES YOU CAN!! The effect is incredible! It's not self-working, but it is definately worth the work. One Card Link needs some preparation, but as you well know - the effect always comes first! |

The review in one of the magic mags noted that the instructions recommend the card NOT be given out.

This annoys me, I used to do this effect, I still have some linked card frames laying around, of course it's been so long I can no longer remember how to do it, heh. That is extremely annoying.

I have this effect and it is great. The card can absolutely be given out but, I beleive, the magazine review contained a general statement from Michael Ammar that you generally do not want to hand out this type of resulting effect. No reason not too - maybe let them inspect it and then get it back. You create the same type of impossible confusion here as you do in the great warped routine by Mr. Wesley James (except the linked card takes some prep). Because of the prep needed, you may want to limit your presentations of linked but it is a killer effect. Most people look ar the card in their hands and are very silent (freaked/concerned). I happen to like these physical/impossible type of effects, with cards.

The preparation for Sixten Beme's trick is pretty involved. It is not simple. This used to sell for a platry $2.00! But, I guess now it's a lot more. In any case, it is worth it if you want a Linking card effect where you can give the cards away actually linked and you don't mind going through some serious prep to accomplish the effect.
You should be adept at splitting and splicing. If you can't do that well, don't buy this. |

I used to do this a few years ago, well a version I came up with myself anyway, I have always assumed it is the same method pretty much.
I met someone the other week who still had the linked card I made for them in their wallet two years later and it was still in good shape! |

Sixten Beme was a magic friend of me and we had some contact via mail and we talked vivid and we did some card routines every year at swedens biggest convention in Lund. He died at age of 76 year: 12 February 2001. Sixten Beme was a great card inventor and lived in Stockholm.
One Card Link is an amazing effect. A freely handling and the absolute clean ending makes this a minor miracle miracle. This is a perfect PR-effect to do in TV. Looks fantastic. |

John Riggs devised an easier version of this effect. It cannot be handed out, but the result does look very similar (no dangling, though). Easy to prepare and easy to do. Also, check the version Karl Fulves included in "More Self-Working Card Tricks". I find a perceptual relation between the Beme effect and "Missing Link", by Chris Kenner, and that is the dangling. It is a disarming feature. However, the preparation in Beme is so demanding, that practicality becomes an issue. The linking cards can be handed out briefly, but they won't stand close scrutiny. Also, the handling cannot be as open as it is in all the Paul Harris variations.
I am waiting for Ian Rowland to release his wonderful version of the Kirigami Rings. That is definitely my choice if giving away the linked paper frames is of importance. federico |

Hi, DJ,
Yes. John Riggs published his method in one of his books (don't remember which one, though). federico |

This product I believe is being sold slightly cheaper than it first appeared on the market.
Correct me if I'm wrong. |

Hello,
I am very interested in this kind of topological effect (the Sixten Beme DVD) I heard that making the card takes practice and time. But what about the handling and presentation of the "trick" ? Is it "easy" ? Are there some bold move/switch or everything flow ? Thank you for your help and information... Nicolas |

The trick isn't hard to perform but does require practice.
As for the effect this is the one that taught me to split and splice as someone mentioned earlier. I actually have a six foot chain of these that I made from the leftovers and cards I had lying around the house. It is very amusing and also makes for an interesting finally as a production following the link I also developed a slightly different prep for this that actually eliminates the use of a second card. It also allows for the card to be signed across the whole front to prove that you don't switch either 'frame', which you don't. Although the signing is rather useless as you ripp the card quite a bit in this effect and it is essentially illedgible in the end. But it is nice to know that the tears do line up perfectly this way. Those who have read the manuscript will know what I mean.

Hello,
I already owne Sixten Beme "One card link" (which I like a lot !) Can someone know the difference between these 3 effects ? * original version of "kirigami ring" * Ian Rowland version of "kirigami ring" * the Sixten Beme "One card link" The principle are the same ? Knowing the Sixten Beme "One card link", is it necessary to get the "kirigami ring" ? Can "kirigami ring" be given away for souvenir ? is it easier to make ? And for the last, where can we get a version (any) of "kirigami ring" beside New York Symposium #5 ? Thanks for any help Nicolas |

Original version of Kirigami Rings: invented by Isao Komine. Published in New York Symposium 5 and nowhere else. Designed as a pocket trick, using a small piece of paper with a chequer-board pattern (like a chess board). A few folds and cuts, result was two inter-linked squares of paper.
My version: scaled up for use as a stage item, with a double sheet taken from a newspaper. I made a slight modification to the preparation which helped to make the end result larger and more visible to a large audience. I also made some small but perhaps significant refinements to the preparation, and also devised what I think is a fitting presentation which allows this superb item to take its place in an erstwhile mentalism show. But all credit to Mr Komine for coming up with the idea and method. Not published, and probably never will be until there's a solution to the piracy / p2p fileshare issue. Sixten Beme Link: an excellent method for producing a linked card effect. Preparation can be time-consuming and requires confidence with splitting cards and sections of cards. However, the end result is very convincing, and almost 100% perfectly hand-outable and examinable. Very well-produced manuscript with clear text and photos. Virtually nothing in common with the Isao Komine link. FLink cards: cards permanently linked to other cards or other flat items. Can be examined forever, given away, studied at length - people still have no clue how the link is achieved. I've had sets examined by magicians, puzzle enthusiasts, topology experts and so forth, and none have solved the method, which is original with me. Examples can be seen on my website (click on Wow Cards). I have made sets for people such as Max Maven and Daryl. Not for sale. I only make them for people I want to make them for. Method not published, and probably never will be until we solve the piracy / p2p fileshare prob.

Thanks a lot Ian Rowland for your help !
It's getting clear I will have to find New York Symposium 5. I have been on your site last month just watching all wow card, this cards are great, love them ! I understand that Kirigami Rings is less topological, it is two interlaced folded square instead of full flat paper square. I suppose they can be unlinked by unfolding them... I am very intrigued by your FLink cards, seems better than Beme "one card link". Nicolas |
