I don't really see the whole point on wearing manipulation gloves. If you can give me your opinions on the idea of wearing those gloves, please inform me, because the only positive thing about it is to hide the edges on the cards.
Thanks in advance.

Gives better cover, makes the fan productions easier once you get the hang of it, and singles can be easy too with lots of spit.
YIKES! But most of all I think it is great. My favorite is starting with them and taking them off and still producing without a steal. I find that to be the best use for gloves if worked out to the max! This is only my opinion. You will get better reasons in time. DJ |

Thanks DJ.
I have never tried manipulation while wearing gloves and thought there might be a certain material that works best. Can you really do productions easier with gloves on? Regan

O MY LORD YES! Like it is much harder to do something like split fans at first, but once you learn it and get the feel for it, it is much better and easier. It is also good for some of the pressures of performing. Sometimes the hands might be sweaty, etc, making things harder...
I thought I would never be able to do Cardini singles with gloves, but after a long talk with Denny H., he told me just to soak the fingers with spit, not soak but lick quite a bit. I learnt this and it just looks beautiful, but I recommend not to do singles with gloves because people at quite a distance will have a hard time seeing the card produced with the white glove as a background. But, yes, to come out on stage with nice classy white gloves on and do some fan productions and cleanly take the gloves off and still produce cards without a steal just looks like REAL magic. For more information, the best I have found, get "Card Magic by Manipulation" written by Lewis Ganson. Denny's Magic has it! DJ |

Hello all!
Wow, I have not posted anything for ages, but here goes! I bought a few gloves back in the day like two years ago. I found them on Magic Smith. Great dealer. Too bad they sold themselves. But anyway, the texture was different on the palm. It felt like a TT (the ones you count money with). So it gave you more bring than your bare hands. I love doing productions with gloves, because I love the feeling of not flashing than with a empty hand and red back decks. Kevin Vu |

It all depends on what else your wearing
I wouldn't suggest gloves if you are wearing a tu tu But seriously It all depends on your style. Cardini wore tails, monicle cane so the gloves went well with the overall costume but david blaine would probable look out of place if he wore gloves because it doesn't go with the rest of his clothes. I find split fans easier than singles but I read somewear that if you put magicians way on the tip of your thumb it can help instead of using spit. try it out just remember to wash your gloves because the'll turn brownish at the finger tips if you don't. |

A number of years ago I was doing a card routine (a la Ganson) and tried several different types of gloves. The ones I finally went with were parade gloves, from a military supplier. They were heavyweight cotton, had the snap at the wrist, and looked great onstage. They also washed well -- I had to do the Clorox bit now and then, but they held up beautifully. Of course, I bought several pairs.
Once I got used to them, I didn't need the spit or anything else... just a bit of fanning powder and Ganson's recommendations as to "breaking in" the cards.

As a child I watched an "old timer" perform (fans and splits) wearing gloves. I thought, then, that the gloves had something to do with the how... then the gloves came off and I was completely baffled.

On card manipulation how can you make it so the cards don't make sounds as when you move them around secretly or do you think I am making a move wrong what do ya think

Well, if you are doing manipulations on stage and not as a close up routine, then you really do not have to worry about this.
Also, we magicians tend to over analyze things way more then a lay person would. I also do not ever recall the cards making that much noise no matterwhat move I perform. The only sound may come when I am producing the card. I let this happen because it sounds like the sound of magic happening. Kyle

I haven't practiced card manipulations with gloves since the 1980's. But I remember it was a lot easier to do when I quit using cotton gloves and used thin Kid Leather gloves instead. With the leather gloves you don't have to lick your fingers and the leather acts as a second skin. I bought a black unlined pair from a street vendor in New York for a few dollars. And I bought a beautiful and expensive white pair with silk lining at the formal department of Saks Fifth Avenue (also in New York). My guess is a pair of chamois gloves (if they could be found) would be perfect for manipulation.
Levent P.S. On the "Jeff Sheridan Genius At Work" DVD volume 2 , there are some very clever ideas regarding the use of gloves and cards.
