No, not that type. I need to be holding a paperback book that suddenly sparks up and flames appear. It only has to be a brief fire, but it needs to be in a way that I can easily replace it in books and possibly do minor damage to the rest of the book. I've tried doing it chemically, but it either takes too long or doesn't work at all.
Any suggestions? Greg

Greg, I may be able to help, but your explaination is sort of confusing. Do you want it to spark up when opened or while closed? What do you mean "easily replace it in books"? Do you want to be able to put the fire book back into a pile with other books. Or do you mean replace the gimmick? I guess I'm asking what "it" is. I have a version that I've made from a soft bound book. I might be able to give a few tips.

Actually, I just came up with a solution, but I have to make it now. The idea is while doing a book test I will have the person send the word or phrase he is thinking of towards me. I'm going to say something like, "Make believe the book I am holding if just blank pages. Now fill all the pages with the phrase you have in mind. Make this entire book read with only the phrase that is in your mind." Well, the phrase is going to be something about flames or fire or hot and I want the book to smoke a bit then have some flames spark up. It doesn't have to be very big to get the point across. And as to the replacement aspect: I want to use the book several times so it would be best if it doesn't burn so much as to be visible the next time I use it and I want most of the pages to stay intact. I've come up with a solution, but you could still post your idea just in case it's a better take on this effect. Oh, and the book should be closed... not opened like the traditional hot book. It should look like the book is one giant match and the top edge caught on fire.

"Fire from anywhere" is something that can be used to give a nice Flash as opposed to a Flame, but it is flat and can be used in a book (about 1/4" is needed)
I think it is a Jim Pace Product, and I have seen it on eBay a lot. I bought one about 8 months ago, and have seen them offered recently at around $15-16 PM me if you want more specifics. BroDavid

It is a trick called Master Flash. You can get this item through http://www.whiterabbitmagic.com
It is a very flat componant, and will fit into any paperback. I once sold this as the Flaming Comic Book. It sells for $12 Jim

Thanks for the replies. I've come up with two workable solutions, but it might be easier for me to pick up an item that is already made to do the job.
