I don't mean the best looking but the best locking.
Apart from the Petrick locking reel, can anyone suggest any others that are good, strong and *silent*. With the PLR, there is a loud *CLICK* when it unlocks. Surely they don't all make this much noise???

Pete,
Yo´re right as always. But here is something you do not know. A young magican/mechahnic started to produce a new type of locking reel. This will be sold in US at "Hocus Pocus" in due time. It comes with three attachements and the apparatus comes very near to the quality Mr. Allen is asking for. Any questions? Feel free to ask! TED LESLEY

Ted, are those the "Python Pull"'s, found at hocus-pocus, the item you are talking about?
Seems to have 4 attachments, 3 different strengths, but it doesn't say if they are locking or not. |

Unfortunately there is not break, but we are working on that. The medium and heavy duty may be to strong to use your finger as a break either but it has been successfully done with the Lite model.
There are two clip attachments included or you can affix your own. I hope this helps. Hugs and Hissessss, Maria |

Is that really Ted Lesley, COOL! I saw theses python pulls in Magic magazine a while back, and they look to be the best (as far as new products). Is it fairly easy to vanish small objects with a pull like this? I can just do sleights, or a raven, or whatever but the pull seems to be a fast clean way. What kind of stuff do you guys use pulls for?

It is fairly easy to vanish a small object with a pull/reel if you're wearing a coat. But if there's no break to lock the reel then elastic will do the job about as well but far cheaper. The Petrick reel has a locking device & runs about $50 (or was that a couple years ago).

Jessiah,
It is fast and very strong. But every thing has its limits. It may be just what you need or too powerful. As for what you can use it for here is a response I just posted about my pull in another category here at magic café ….. I suggest my pulls for stage use. Even the line is best for stage. This real is not designed for serpentine silk (although a bit strong, you could manage it with the Lite strength python pull) or featherweight tricks. It is designed for heavy-duty work. I use my Lite or medium strength pull for silk through the microphone stand (or as in my act, silk thru handcuffs, spike heels on a shoe etc...) for years and it never fails. Steve uses the same model at conventions and in demos and yanks on it like crazy and never a break. Thousands of demos and it still works. The heavy duty is strong enough to pick your cell phone of the ground. It is the strongest reel I have ever seen in the magic market. The issues are is it the right reel for your needs. There are many great reels available today. There are many that are junk. Some are no more than key chains, broken open, re-worked and when put back together tend to break. Ours was designed not to compete with the small, lightweight reels already available, there are plenty of those and they work fine. Ours is to open up new doors in that a reel can now handle the heavy work they never did before. Heavy jumbo coins and bird cages can now vanish without worry of breaking thread and so on. I suggest stopping by your favorite magic shop and give it a try prior to purchase to see if it is what you need. Hugs and Hissessss, Maria Posted: Dec 30, 2004 5:51pm ------------------------------------------ Evan magic, It wouldn’t be for a while, just to busy performing to do anything now, plus getting the funds available to create molds for the plastic and such takes time. Thanks for the compliment but I am a bit embarrassed in that I have not updated that site in so long. Hugs and Hissessss, Maria |

The super action reel came in and it is amazing! As I have said in a similar post, it is the best and will last years to come, the mechanism is quiet, and it is a lot of fun to play with. Theres a million possibilities!!!
