Hi guys !
I need some advice on Cannon's "Strong Box" Escape please. Does anyone have it and do it ? Is it as good as it looks ? To be honest I am not much of an escapologist and don't plan to be either, but this effect to me is spectacular enough even to be a part of a Mind over Matter presentation. All the Best Magnus |

I have and use it, subject to your style of presentation this can be played big or mediocre. You don`t have to be much of an escapologist to use it but you do need to be an entertainer capable of putting it over.
It plays a good six minets, small to transport and very well made also its not been done to death (Yet). Ken. |

I have the Strong Box as well. As with all of Cannons products its very good. I've seen it performed weakly and strongly and I think it's a fine piece of escape artistry. However if you are not an escape artist, it may be a little on the expensive side.
You may want to consider something like Kellar Rope Tie or a Straightjacket escape which is a little more cost effective and you can get a lot of mileage out of. You mentioned 'mind over matter' and the STrong Box could fit in with that presentation. But then again, mind over matter is a presentational concept and you could apply that to a lot of different escapes. |

Thanks both Ken & Carnegie for great and invaluable advice !
Yes, I know it's a little pricy if you're not really into doing escapes so much. But the reason I got struck on it in the first place was because of the almost impossible build up. What I wanted to know was if it could be used with success even not being an escapologist...which you both have proven it can. And you can rest assure if I decide to go for it I plan to play this big...but not kill it ;-) Thanks again for the good advice ! Magnus |

My wife Kristen Johnson has and performs the Strong Box. She does a good job with it, but as of the past 5 months it has not been in our show, due to her performing another escape involving handcuffs. It is still in our rig as she uses it for non show performances such as radio and tv interviews.
It does need a good performer to keep it interesting. Hope that helps. Kevin

Kevin & Kristen:
Thank you for more good an valuable advice ! Yes, it helps as I begin to realize I was right when first getting interested in this effect. Have already understood it requires the right performer also and is nothing you just buy and start doing immediately... But as stated before what I wanted to know was if it did require you physically be a trained escapologist to perform it. Thanks ! Magnus |

Some inquiries that I’ve been receiving has been in regards to the ability to fit a 225-250 pound individual into the box?
Apparently these are custom made, with the disclaimer, about being physically phit...er fit. Any insights? |

Lloyd,
The strong box is a handcuff escape. Do you mean the sweat box? Ros

I think we're getting a little confused with titles, here.
As Ros says, the Cannon's "Strong Box" escape is a clear Lexan box containing cuffs and a blue box etc., a handcuff escape. The "Sweat Box" is a timber box with a cell door lock on the lid. The "physically fit disclaimer" goes with the "Diamond Plated Steel Box Full View Escape. Mark Cannon actually says (in his ad) "performer must be in good physical shape.." My "insight" is that I would need a "flip over box" style Anyway, the question is, Magnus, which one do you mean ? Regards Riley |

I mean what I wrote the first time, i.e.
Cannon's "Strong Box" escape with a clear Lexan box containing cuffs and a blue box etc., a handcuff escape. The reason I have so thorough asked if it can be done without being so much of an escape artist is getting the product to Sweden will cost about 50 % more than the stated price + postage. All due to ordinary taxes and a new "punishment" tax getting products from outside the EU (how to find this in the EU perhaps the guys in Bussels know...I don't). So to buy this without getting some advice first would be idiotic. However I now have all the advice I need, and will go for it. Thanks ! Magnus |

Excuse me...I had in mind their new aluminum diamond plate box escape, rather than the Plexiglas strong box. Sorry.
Now there is a trick, getting a 250 pound guy into the strong box, with handcuffs to boot. Mac |

I realize this is an old thread but I'm an considering the purchase of the Cannon Strong Box.
Can this be examined by the audience? It's pricey. Is it worth it? Other items I've purchased from Cannon are excellent and thus I assume this to be the same. Thanks in advance for your input. |

Hi Magnus,
Have you ordered the Strong Box yet? Just wondering if you received it and what you think of it. If you would like to see it in actual performance, you can purchase Mark Cannon's "21 Century Escape Lecture". On that video, he performs the strong box and you will see a room full of magicians examine the equipment before his escape.... and we know what to look for yet he still fooled and entertained us! I bought one just this past year and I love it. I have turned it into a comedy escape with 2 different routines. In one routine I use my ferret and introduce her as the worlds smallest lock picker and have her put into the strong box and she picks the locks so that I can escape. In the other routine I say this is the most dangerous escape and have the box filled with raw uncooked shrimp, and when people start to laugh and looked confused I tell them that it is so dangerous because I am allergic to shell fish. I am givig you the readers digest version but you get the idea. I would say that with all that you receive with this effect it is worth every penny. Not to mention that Mark spoke to me for about an hour with the pros and cons of this effect as I had to use different hand cuffs because my wrists are a little larger than the average person.

Thanks for the recommendation of the Strong Box. You've added some very nice twists to doing the illusion.
I think I'm ready to put in my order. All the best. |

I still do the Cannon's Strong Box as a closing to my magic show. I theme it around the old 1960s Batman TV as one of the impossible escapes that villains used to put Batman into, but he would always inexplicably escape.

*sigh* Cannon's closing was a great loss...
