Hey Yall,
In this world, its not uncommon to mess up something. But in the world of magic, messing up is the worst thing to do. Question is, are you quick enough to cover the botch? How fast are you when it comes to thinking on your feet? Today, while eating at the College Café, I decided to amaze some people with the Invisible Card trick. Oh, I did the acting like it was no tomorrow. And upon uncovering the card, oops, a botch. I forgot which way the cards were facing and ended up having her card face up along with all the rest. What to do, what to do? Well, I figured it out without a moments pause or notice. Since the group was already laughing at my zany act of an "invisible deck", I asked the girl I was performing for to pick another "invisible card" and toss it in the real deck. Low and behold, with lots more acting, I got the card. Reaction: the masses freaked. They didn't even notice my mistake. I walked out of that mess as one of two things: Lucky and Happy. So, question people: how many of you can think on your feet? Examples and stories please. Sol

That's pretty remarkable. I have done similar things from time to time. Usually when I goof up a trick and I don't have an out, I will look at them and smile and say "What did you expect? Magic?" Gets a laugh every time.

When it comes to cards, I like to use a DeKram deck for my mechanic tricks, because that way, even if I louse up the moves, I can simply use the marks to do a mentalism effect. The tricks which make me nervous are the ones like pen-thru, ring-flight (and I presume Porper&Biro's 'justincase')and coin-into-bottle.....where you have to pull a bold-faced move rigfht in front of the spectator. Yes, I know that's whar misdirection is for, but there's always the chance that a spectator's eyes will dart back the other way just a bit too soon. I've been lucky so far, but I have no idea how I'd recover if spotted!

Sometimes (and there was a certain time) where I goofed twice... but even so, I was saved by lots of acting and a huge stroke of luck. Sometimes, when you play it out as much as possible, people don't even see the screw up. Sol
