If for restaurants, try buying Eugene Burger's videos on approaching a table.

Check the forum entitled "The Sidewalk Shuffle." there are a lot of street performers in there who can help.

Paddy,
Although they probably do have more answers, there's a fundamental difference between "Street Magic" and what they do. For lack of a better word, I'll call them "Buskers." Buskers are typically stationary, at least for a time, and people come to them. They use noise, music, jokes, and flourishy demonstrations to attract attention before they start the real "show." I think what Prince Troll is looking for is more the "David Blaine" style of performing where you approach a stranger on the street with deck/coins in hand and is looking for something better than "look, look" or "wanna see something weird?"

Street Magic is becoming a fad here in my country.
I really would like to know the other approaches. |

Dave is somewhat right on my approach. But I want to be anything but David Blane. I just don't like his stuff or character or how he performs. But that is just my opinion.

"Hi I'm a magician! wanna see my little red ones?" then pull out your sponge balls...
or "I'm doing random acts of magic, wanna see some?" then do a coin production or a snap change IN THEIR FACE! those will get their attention. or why not try Jay Sankey's line in Revolutionary Coin Magic "is your mother still breathing"? hehehe.. just playin.. |

Well, since this is the street section, do this.
"Excuse me I'm a magician, would you care to see a trick?" I have also herd some people just say, can you hold this piece of rope for me and bam.
You know you are a magician when you have boxes full of lecture notes you have never read, but still are excited about going out and buying more.

I would think that any question that can be answered with a "No" and which blows you off should be avoided. Example: "Would you like to see some magic"? Answer: "No!" BAM!! Too easy to blow you off with a question of this type.
A far better question might be: "Have you ever seen the World's Greatest (Fastest, Most Puzzling, Most Dangerous) rope (Card, Coin, Fire, Etc.) trick (effect, demonstration)? Jon Allen asks a very non-threatending question as he approaches a table that is non-treatening and doesn't allow for the blow-off. The question was something like: "Who is the most fun-loving person at this table"? That's not the exact qoute but I hope you get the idea? Just my $0.02 worth. Mike
