I enjoy performing Rings and String, and I am looking for a good finale in stand up & walk around venues... with quick or instant reset. Ring Flite type effects don’t fit my style, but I do like the idea of ring to nest of boxes or "impossible location" I’d appreciate ideas.

I close my ring and string routine with a variation of Jim Ryan’s "Ring, Rod and string." Basically, the ring is on the string and spectators hold each end of the string. You hold a wand (or chopstick, etc) in your other hand and spectators hold each end of that, as well. You pull the string back like a bow and release it. The string is empty and the ring is whirling on the wand, while the ends of each are still in the spectators’ grasp! It’s a killer!

My final ring and string move is the "Great Escape" with the ring being loaded onto my little finger (Greg Wilsons ring leader).
This then puts me in an ideal position to make use of my Loop (Yigal Mesika) to float the ring right back to it’s owner. It kinda goes off the string theme a bit, but it’s the only finish I need. |

I am using Bob Millers ring and string routine and I finish by having the ring vanish off of the string.
After some by play with it, it is back on your finger. Then I assure them that their ring was safely locked away in my back pocket the whole time. I come out with it locked on the Wedding Ring lock and say; "See, no one would have been able to get to it". I let poeple at the table try and unlock the lock. Then I have them pass it to the person I borrowed the ring from. If it is a wedding ring, I ask them to use the year they were married. A class ring, I have them use the year they graduated and so on. And a miracle happens, the lock unlocks!! Glad to be a part of this group. Shawn D |

I also use the finale from the Greg Wilson routine but I also like the idea of the ring in card box. The Gary Plants version could be my next purchase. Any reviews?

Mark Paul has a great ring in card box that I have used several times in the ’real world.’ Mark fooled me when he showed it to me, and it’s scary how easy it is! Also, for a nice finale Andy Leviss’ and my "Binner There, Done That" is a nice way to finish. There’s also Andy’s "Charmed" where a borrowed ring turns into a pendant in a spectator’s hand. You pull out your neck-chain and in place of the pendant is the spectator’s ring. Both effects (’Binner has two methods/approaches) can be found in our book, "Brainstorms (And Other Mental Disturbances)" which is due to be released in a few months. Thanks Steve...
At first I thought, "Not another forum!?" And then I read a few posts and realized that there are a lot of guys who work in the real world and tell it as it is here... thats the way I like it. I’m having fun already! --Andi _________________ Check out - A2 Productions my all new website - http://www.asquaredproductions.com

Loren Michaels has a killer ending to his ring & ribbon routine.
It ends up attached to his ear, his earring switching places with the ring. He does not disclose his method, he leaves it up to you to figure out a way to do it. Pretty cool idea! |

Hi guys, well the final phase in Sonata for ring and string is really strong. I use the whole routine, the routine belongs to Dan Fleshman

Donald, Is this the routine from Dan’s book "The Very Best Yet"? Or is Sonata different? Russ

The routines are very similar, with only minor differences. Dan offers a few "bonus moves" in Sonata, which also comes with a string (parachute cord). Dan is a good friend of mine, and one of the world's most underrated magicians!

This is how I end my ring and string. I’m describing the method and the effect at the same time, so it reads less impressively than if I had just described the effect.
The spectator sees the ring on the string. I tie the string around my right hand, stealing the ring, and give the spectators each end to hold. This gives me the cover to put the real ring in my pocket and steal a Brema Nut. I then attach the Brema Nut to the string under the guise of telling each spectator to hold tight. I then open my right hand with my left hand underneath. Everyone expects the ring to drop into my open left hand. When it doesn’t I say "Nuts" and revolve my right hand. They now see a nut on the string. "Nut!" I say again, and with a clearly open hand, I go into the pocket and retrieve a nut and bolt. On the nut and bolt is their ring, and the only way that they can remove their ring is to unscrew the nut which takes ages. The Brema nut is specially altered so the connecting pins are about twice as long. This allows the nut to stay in an open position, until I close it about the string. The setup in the pocket [a nut and bolt in a holder] is an "invention" of mine, and I’m not tipping the method. It’s just a specially altered bolt, but how it’s altered takes too long to explain. I was thinking of marketing it, but it was too expensive to manufacture. Bye for now Harold

Lovely routining, Harold!
I love throw-away lines like "nuts", which are worth their weight in gold in actual working. One line like that, that I picked up years ago from a Hugard Sealed book is used at the very end of the Piano Card Trick (which is still effective amidst sleight of hand tricks): you pick up the previously odd pile and count off 2’s, showing it’s even, then pick up the previously even pile and count off 2’s until you end with a single card. Pause, stare at them and say "Odd, isn’t it." But thanks for the routine. Robin |
