I am looking for an effect with a mans neck chain. I am trying to perhaps make it appear or perform some type of effect that would conclude with it's appearance.
The only good idea I've had has been to use it as a final load in it's box in my cups and balls routine. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Cheers, Cameron Fisk |

Why do you want to make it appear? That will help with suggestions.

Hi Cameron:
Just to be sure I understand, are you talking about a gold chain? Also, is this for a close up show or stand up? Lastly, do you use a table while performing? I've got a couple of ideas that I think would fit, depending on your performing conditions. Ron |

How about rigging up something like the commercial effect "Color Changing Rope" or "Color Changing Shoelaces"?

Sorry guys, I was not very clear. I could be using either a table or not. The chain is a gift for someone and I've been asked if I could performa an effect with it where most likely it would appear. It will be in a close-up situation. Also the chain will probabaly be either gold or silver and perhaps in a box. I don't have to use the box for the effect but it might help also. I hope this helps more.

Have a loop of heavy string or a shoelace the same size as the chain? Maybe some kind of switch bag, egg bag? Something you could turn the cord into gold with. Even an envelope switch. Find it with a signed card (Anniversary Waltz?) in a wallet inside an envelope?
Get a blown egg and put it inside and use as a chop cup load? Inside a lemon?

Hey thanks Pete! How would you get the necklace into the blown egg? Sounds kind of complicated... Thanks.

Depends on how thick the chain is. Make a hole in one end of the egg big enough to slip it in. A tiny hole in other end to blow out the contents. Then put a bit of tissue paper over the hole and fix with white glue and/or spackle to seal it. Sand it down a bit if you need to.
Another idea is to have the chain in a palm and hold a piece of flash string hanging down, light string and let chain drop into view. The flash will make it look like the string turned into the chain.

Depending on how heavy the chain is...TT and flash string. This is an idea of Gary Darwin's and appears in his book "T**** T** Thinking." c. 1986.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |
