Hi
I am trying to trace the history and users of the Fly topit - I believe Ammar has used it, but who predates this.

I have a fly topit. It's basically my pants pocket.
I rarely use it however.

Frank is this the type that fits in your pants in front of the zip? and if so where did you get the information about it?

Really, it's just my pocket. I had a slit cut into the top inside of the left pocket. Maybe this doesn't qualify. If it does qualify, are there prizes involved?

Frank
Are you sure this slit is for topit use?
Sorry no prizes - I am doing research into types of topits.
LOL

IIRC (and this has nothing to do with the fly Topit) somebody (might have been Michael Ammar) did load a selected/signed card via a slit in the normal trouserspocket to be produced from *the fly*...
But that wasn't a *Topit*..

The origin of the "Fly Topit" is quite interesting. The first time it appears in print is 1634, as a marginal note in Hocus Pocus, Junior.

I have a question. How do you get the flies to go into the topit?
Or is this a very small topit worn by flies? Inquiring minds want to know.

Actually, if you wear Lederhosen, they have a built in topit.

I keep expecting someone to make, and offer landing lights for such a thing.
In all fairness, most performers are better off not drawing attention to their crotch area and likewise most audiences prefer to see magic framed by the more acceptable elbows to face area.

| Jon, isn't a topit considered to be a secret device?
Nobody should get drawn the attention 'down' to a croach area?
But, one never knows..depends on how well it is handled..
I'm not the best example re doing it well..

Gee Werner, somone making tossing actions at their crotch is gonna catch some attention there ... and the way many performers frame the actoin on the table... asking for trouble.

Is this fly topit what I think it is? If it is, then I'm getting the best laugh of the night!
