Street magician defined?
Strolling or Table Hopping mage working the street. Formal Closeup or Parlor mage working the street. When working in a swimming pool they are "Swimming Pool Magicians". |

I didn't think this topic would create such a stir. I guess I'm getting old (34 now). I'm pretty sure that at least 60% of those who call themselves street magicians now days would have called themselves something else like close up magician ten years ago.
I'd also imagine that at least half of those who call themselves street magicians have been into magic less then ten years. Is there anything wrong with this? Of course not. It's just something that has changed over time. If a magician had a successful TV special on doing magic with nothing but fire. There'd be a new line of fire magicians coming out (Probably calle themselve pyro magicians). The same happened after Copperfield started doing large illusions (Such as the statue). Many other magicians started doing it (For sake of discussion I know he wasn't the first but his was the most known to the public). I just thought the change in terms was interesting. Obviously, those who got into magic because of the new "Term" will see it differently then those of us who where in it before that became "the thing." Ron Jaxon |
