Does anyone know where the original confabulation effect is in print or on DVD.

Confabulation - several members of the audience create the details of a vacation, or a car etc and the mentalist pulls out a prediction from an envelope in a zippered wallet and a volunteer reads the correct prediction.

Dones anyone have an opinion on the best wallet for the effect?

I know there have been several additions to the effect over the years, I'm looking for the original that simply uses double writing.

Thanks

I too have often wondered if Shaxon himself has the effect hidden away in some lecture notes somewhere.

Hello, there.

"CONFABULATION" is Alan Shaxon's effect. It was marketted by Ken Brooke at least 25 years ago.

I'm not sure if it's still available anywhere. I know Joe Stevens used to handle it. When I purchased it years ago from Ken, he had just switched over to providing the Fred Kaps' Working Performer's Card In Wallet rather than the gimmicked wallet he had previously supplied.

So far as I know, the original Ken Brooke instructions would be the best source for the original Shaxon effect. There are, of course, many variations of the effect, and it's still a highlight of the performances of many professionals.

Good luck with your search.

I use Ron's version with a few minor adjustments that fit me, but it is one of the strongest pieces in my act.

Ron Wilson's version may be found in "The Uncanny Scot," a Kaufman publication. The effect is "Confabulous" on page 98. This one is definitely worth the price of the book.

I have the original confabulation in my collection.
I think I still have ethe original routine somewhere.
Richard Lyn.

Joe Stevens have Confabulation for sale.
The version I now use shows the actual prediction written in ball point writing, no c/p fake.
The envelope is cut open by the spectator who reads the travel sheet.

Marc Spelmann does a Confabulation routine on his DVD, I believe the name of his routine is Beyond the Grave.

It is called 'From Beyond The Grave' nice in that it eliminates palming and has a dark feel to it. Marc Strivings routine is pretty good however the prediction and what you have just written do get close which to me suggests a possible method however his routine is very commercial and also eliminates palming.

Banachek also has a version on his Radio Magic which is pretty standard in application ie D****e W***e, P**m & Load, but he has some nice thoughts on it.

Jeff Hobson does a comedy version which is nice also but again uses the standard method.

Just for the records.
The idea for Confabulation was started by Al Koran.
He invented and performed the first version called "the dream car".
The "Gen" had a version back in the 1970's.
Alan Shaxon then invented the best version, "Confabulation".

I just went to the Steven's web site and don't see it. What is the name under which it is marketed?

Try:

alanshaxon@aol.com

He still sells the essential components and instructions (or at least he did about a year ago).

Send an email to Stevens. I think they sold it on behalf of 'Paul Stone."

Joe Stevens does not carry it anymore. I have it, it uses the Kaps wallet,it is made of seal skin. It came with all the necessary props for $75.00 about 1980!
