Hole Sensation (trick)
Price:$12.95 Producer: JB magic 2002 Author: Iain Moran Category: Card Difficulty: Easy (basic skill required) Short History: This effect is based on an effect by Richard Kaufman, Derek Dingle, and Ken Krenzel which appeared in Richard's Almanac magazine. You can find this trick under a different name in the Collected Almanac entitled "Holy P.O.D." page 33 in the Winter Extra issue. Many variations of the original were in print, however, this one introduces a whole new construction. This is certainly an improvement from the one I read in the Almanac. Gerard Majax marketed a color changing card, which Ken Krenzel found that is much more effective than a vanish than a color change. Later, they (kaufman, dingle, krenzel) simplified the construction of the gimmick. Finally Derek Dingle develops the steal of the selection from between the jokers (eliminated in Hole sensation) and helps shape up the final handlings. Description: The magician very cleanly displays two jokers with big holes cut right through them. The spectator could of course examine these jokers front and back without finding anything (because there isn't anything to find!). The jokers are left on the table for a moment. The magician introduces a deck of regular playing cards and asks the spectator to choose a card; let's suppose the spectator picked the ace of clubs. He signs the card and HE PUTS it face down between the two face jokers on the table. The magician sets the deck on the table and displays the front of the three card packet thus allowing the spectator to clearly see the back design through the holes on one side, and the pip of a club on the other side. The magician takes the three cards together in one packet and suddenly flicks the packet; to the spectator's surprise, the card vanishes in full view. The magician displays BOTH sides of the jokers and sets it aside on the table. After spreading through the deck, the magician finds only one card face up; the signed selection. My Brief Analysis: This trick is a quickie but a goodie. The strong points in this trick is that the spectator's selection never leaves sight until the point of the flick vanish. Another point to keep in mind is that the spectator can put the card in between the jokers at the very beginning (this eliminates any suspicion). The final vanish is a stunner and packs a big punch as well. Precautions: Although this trick is angle proof, I do suggest you not do other card trick after this particular one (probably end your show or go into some non card items) because you are left unclean (in other words, some cards will have to be ditched). The trick is good itself, but if you are a strolling magician, this may not be the best choice for you because the set up is quite a lot and you are not reset after you're done. One last reminder, after you are done with the trick, only the signed selection could be examined (that's why I advise you to do other non card tricks after this one) Conclusion: If you are a close up performer looking for nice quick stunning effects this is the effect for you. The only drawback is the reset time (not very bad, but the setup is worse than the other tricks I perform). Overall: 8.8/10

I bought this trick because of it's stunning card vanish. I aggree the set up is timely but a good effect. Some times people start wondering why you nreed to put the three cards on the deck but I have found you can easly get their mind off the deck.
