How does it feel to be considered one of the most funny magicians on the planet ?
and another important thing , what makes you tick during a show . I mean when you come up with a gag or a joke , is it prepared in advance { so when the opportunity comes you are prepared } or is it spontaneus { tought on the spot } or a bit of both { different ideas and gags are always stirring in your mind so that when performing and a remark or an opportunity comes out , somehow magically the gag appears in your mind out of the whole mess that was there before } tnks for your time dave { thanks for letting me disect your brain a little bit } keep it up !!!

I know better. Paul Gertner gave me great advice years ago- The minute you start to believe the great stuff said about you, you're in trouble!
I've had enough ego checks over the years that I can keep comments like that in perspective. Also, there nothing better to keep ones bloated self-image in check than raising a 13 year old son. As far as improv during a show-most of it is planned but I welcome opportunities to go "off script." Keeps it fresh. |

David, it seems like the zanier side of your persona could pretty much leave no room for hecklers. Does it help?

Experience and the ability to react with a comment are keys to success with guys like DW.
Lou Derman, one of the great comedy writers of our time (All in the Family and other hit TV shows) once talked about how you MUST always react, always answer any comment or action. Even if it isn't really funny, you have to say something. David has that ability, but, unlike many, what he does is more often funny than not. It is to be envied. I don't think it can be learned.

I'm gonna let Pete answer for me from no on. He says it better. And his chin rubbing gives him more authority.
Seriously, I don't have a good answer for Hecklers. You have to be careful. If it's early in the show, I don't want to alienate the crowd so I may ignore. Later if I feel the crowd is with me, I can beat up on the guy a little. It all depends. Sometimes I may fire a warning shot early to ward off hecklers. Once again I don't have any definitive answers. I'm stupid. |
