I hope I'ts the right category. My question: How I should finish this trick?
I have 2 Tricks in combination. one is "mental 5" from Hakan Varol (German dealer) and the other one ist the "voodoo doll" Now I will performe this 2 Tricks together. I show the doll etc... then I have a small bag with 5 little sculls inside (Mental 5) 4 sculls are white, and one is black. the black head is the head of the voodoo doll and she will finde out wich person has the black scull in his pocket. 5 persons, each take one of the skull. So noboddy knows his color. then I put the doll on my hand and the doll beginns to levitate infront of the person with the black scull. Infront of the other 4 Persons the doll will lay down on my hand. (noboddy from the audiance knows his color. In that moment, when the People take the black one, I know, that he have the black one. So I can levitate the doll in front of this spectator) Now my question. How I should finish this trick? a)at first I say "you must have a withe one, also you, ... and at last you must have the black one!" or the other version? b) "u must have the black one. All the other have white sculls. because the voodoo doll levitate only infront of you! Please open up your hands now! What do you think aboute that? Do you have an other idear to finished that part? Please help me and thank's a lot for your ideas!

Tonga,
Apparently no one else has bother to respond, so I'll tell you what I think. First, to answer your actual question, the appropriate build of suspense is to eliminate the white ones until you are down to just two possible choices, and then choose between them in a dramatic do-or-die fashion. That said, I feel compelled to tell you that you are making a mistake combining these two effects. You have set up the effect by the free and secret selections of the skulls. So the "story" begins with the idea that you will magically divine who has the all-important black skull. But then, near the end - but not as the climax - you perform a levitation, supposedly to determine who has the black skull. This is all wrong. The levitation is a much stronger effect than correctly guessing correctly against mere 5 to 1 odds; by putting this levitation immediately prior to the climax of the original premise (finding the black skull), you've actually lessened BOTH effects. Regards, Thomas Wayne

Sounds like a real weird combination. Would like to see it in performance.

Thank you Thomas for your respond. So I have not thinking about that. that's right, the levitation is killing the original climax. yesterday I have seen a video with the performance of Charles Gauchi with his "Body Language" It's the same effekt like "Mental 5". so I understand, what you meen.

You could include a logical disconnect -
basically this means that when the doll floats in front of the black one you act (very convincingly) that this tell YOU that they must have the black one. The idea is to derive where the black one is from dolls behaviour as if you have no control over when the doll dances. If the audience believe your reaction then, you will have logically disconnected the actual method from a pseudo method. S |
