Mr. Williamson:
Being in magic as long as you have, and seen the changes that video and the internet has brought about, where do you see magic heading? Do you see any bad trends coming with "magic overload" that is so easily washing over the newer and younger set (not to mention some of us older guys too) of kids coming into magic? And a final question off subject: Do you have any magic pet peeves? Thanks in advance! Jim
Any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile...can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction, "I served in the United States Navy." J.F.K.

Hi Jim
I'm encouraged. I'm seeing more enthusiasm these days than in a long time. For a while there weren't many kids involved. Lots of youthful enthusiasm now it seems. That's good. I'm always optimistic about the future of magic. I know it comes in waves and cycles. When there is much superficial interest, then that's better for the serious students. Less competition. When there are many serious students, that's good for the art. lots and lots of pet peeves: The "I'm gonna" school of presentation..."Now I'm gonna pick up this card and now I'm gonna ask you to sign it." Just pick up the card and ask her to sign it!!! Don't tell us what you're doing, just do it. ( I was guilty of this for many years early on) another pet peeve is guys like me dispensing advice when they ought to be seeking it!! too many more to go on...I might start offending people and I don't want to. |
