Cody Fisher has a version he published in MUM Magazine. It can be found on his website at CodyFisher.com
I've also heard of a version by Richard Sanders. It's on the Sankey/Sanders DVD from penguinmagic. I've never seen it however. Caleb

Richard Sanders has one called Hardcore Packet on the video: "Sankey Sanders Sessions," in which you end up with really only 4 cards in your hands, the aces.
I like cards.

Card Conjuror has already mentioned the Sankey Sanders Sessions. Richard Sanders has a very clean version.

You end up clean only when the effect is finished and that is downpart of the effect. But I do like it. Impromptu, no gimmicks and the setup is as easy as setting-up the 2CM. Michael Bradbury

I never really did understand why you would want to perform a ungimmicked version of NFW. Sure, ok, the cards can be examined at the end, but the handling will never be as clean, and you will either have to palm off some cards or perform something like an ascanio spread.
I'd rather just switch out the gimmicked card, much less hassle. If its just a case of it being impromptu if someone throws a deck at you, I'd just perform any other twisting effect. The audience wont be able to remember the difference and when they tell their friends they will describe a hugely embellished version of it anyway..

Ain't no section about his MUM articles, McGee. Answering a magic question gets you into a magicians' section, but that merely tells yuh that it's "coming soon." Evidently, Things Have Changed. We'll probably have to find that back issue of MUM.

The version that I perform is very clean and looks identical to the original. In fact, the handling is very close.
Personally I have to vote for an ungimmicked version over the gimmick. I do some palming but it's not until right near the end and only for a couple seconds. The routine has been structured as such that I don't have to think about the palming portion of the routine as the 'heat' is far from on the hands. My main reason for this of course is it's ability to be completely impromptu and use any deck. -Chris.

The original version of NFW works just fine for me. People are so surprised at the end that they don't have a chance to even think about how it was done. Sometimes you just have to realize that a gaff here or there cannot be replaced with sleight of hand.

We use or combine these to produce most effective effect. If the original NFW is better in effect, I don't hesitate to use gaff. However, in the original NFW, we need to do an awkward sleight of showing four same cards. That is a vital weak point in the trick. So I arranged the trick as below. I open a card case and take a full pack of Jokers. I show Jokers saying "Usually I don't use Jokers for magic, so I discard Jokers as soon as I open new decks. These are discarded Jokers". I show four normal Jokers and switch to the set for NFW and do the original routine. Hideo Kato |
