I'm going to re-post something from another thread (now locked) that I posted earlier.
Levitator, Kinesis I don't care what either of you say, draping yourself over and galavanting on top of someones gravestone is no sign of respect. And don't give me this "don't judge him, how dare you judge the way this man shows respect" stuff. that's a load of crap. I don't care how much "respect" or even "love" he has for the man. You don't go climbing around on someones tombstone. Its not a freaking jungle gym, or some plaything for anyone to use for their own amusement. Its not put there to be used as a pedestal for people to perch themselvs atop. Just because someone says you are overflowing with respect dosen't mean you get a free pass when you act like a idiot. If I say I'm doing it out of respect would it be ok for me to pee on Dai Vernons grave? Get real. It is such a cop out to say things like "what is right or wrong is purely subjective" you can literally dismiss and excuse ANY behavior with this foolishness. There are accepted norms in a society, and around here it is basically accepted that tombstones are not objects to be used for one's own self-aggrandisement. So, however people treat gravesites and markers around the world is not really that relevant. Vandy P.S. When you go to Rome, do as Rome does. Rome will be a ugly customer to you, if you don't. I'm your Rome, you know." LOL

Criss Angel has done more for the art of magic than probably anyone on this thread, myself included. Yet there are those who wish to judge him negativlely because he dresses differently and presents himself in his own way instead of being a cookie-cutter magician like most out there. I guess they are jealous that this "freak" is more successful than they are. I haven't seen anything here where anyone said something derogatory about Criss Angel based on his appearance. Not one post. Angel has repeatedly attacked David Blain in the media. How is this doing a service for magic? The reasons given by most people who have disliked Angel in this thread an others is his egotistical behavior...not his looks. He has called himself the "greatest provocateur in magic"...how is this not egotistical? Do I think he is egotistical? Yes. But then again....look at his idol. Houdini was probably the most egotistical man in the history of magic. He is patterning himself after someone who lacked even a hint of humility. So I guess I shouldn't be surprised about him draping himself upon someone's grave. |

What kind of image do you get by sitting on top of a gravestone to have your picture taken?
I think it's a level of disrespect. Yes, it's one thing to have a photo taken at a famous grave.. but it's another to completely disrespect the gravesite, and it's a lower form of life who uses said images to sell themselves. |

Irishguy, thanks for re-posting that. I cut out the part of my re-post that dealt with that.
I want it to be clear. I have a lot of respect for Chriss angel as a magican, I don't judge him based on his wardrobe or any other aspect of his life. He is a good magician and a good performer. His ego does not interest me,it dosen't matter if he is an egomaniac or as humble as can be. I've come down hard on him for climbing on the tombstone and nothing else. I believe its wrong and disrespectful. I don't care if you oil up, put on a thong and climb on a tomb or if you do it in top hat and tails. I feel its disrespectful. If Doug Henning had done it I would have felt the same way. Vandy

He is a good magician and a good performer. I agree. His is skilled, but his personality annoys me. Quote:

It interest me as far as I think it takes away from his performance and within this thread it has been stated that he has done a great deal for magic. I think his attitude is actually a detriment to magic. Quote:

Criss Angel's a BIG FAT BABY! When things don't go his way he instantly uses the threat of a law suit! He's a liar, too. I know this from personal experience! The guy has no character, thinks he's God's gift to magic, and could care less about other magicians -- that's a fact!!!!!!!!!! Mr. Angel, take your computer special effects that you try to pawn off as magic, and shove it!
A magician isn't defined by how many tricks he knows, but how well he has mastered them!

Whatever gets said about him on the Magic Café I'm guessing he's getting paid for his specials anyway. (shrug) Wendy

Personally I think his street girl levitation was great ive only seen the demo but wow. Clueless as well as his walking up the wall . I understand that it may have some set-ups and we might not be able to do it. but come on everyone that sees a woman float on stage has a million and one explanations for it. Laymen who saw it on T.V. or in the street Stoped making reasons and beleaved it was real magic. Big-Ups to criss I like the guy and I don't think he disrespected houdini. People show love in many diffrent ways.

I saw that girl levitaion clip over a year ago and I still haven't figured it out.
Has he got some IT that can hold over 100 kg? He would have used the same stuff to walk up the wall. Notice how his weight is shifted toward his seat like a mountain climber. |

That levitation was so amazing that it had to have been staged (like with stooges)

That levitation was so amazing that it had to have been staged (like with stooges) That seemed rather obvious to me. If a stranger walks up, does some weird passes in front of your girlfriend and then she passes out...would you not take issue with this? Yet the boyfriend didn't seem to care at all. Additionally, without prompting, the "non-stooge" boyfriend knew to grab her at one end, whilst another "non-stooge" grabbed the other...again, without being told to...and nobody seemed to have an issue with this? Obvious stooging there. |

And the fact that she knew to cross her arms over her chest Agreed. Not just the knowledge but the ability to do so considering she was in a "trance". |

That's the thing about "magic", once you start learning about it you realise that the rules are: do what you can to decieve your audience into thinking that you can do impossible things.
Therefore if the audience is in TV-land you have a number of challenges: to convince them that there is no set up and "trick-photography" even if there is. Just like David Blaine's steet levitation, not all but some were refilmed from different angles. |

I kinda new that it was staged but the concept and effect was still pretty impressive. To everyone else there and those in tv land.

That's the problem. If it was staged, with stooges, who says that the people there were impressed? They might just be actors being told they are to act impressed? The entire thing might have been done in front of a green screen in a studio in Hollywood. His walking up a wall might have been a camera trick. Everything he's done might not be "real." (Note, Real in quotes means that the audience was real and all "assistants" were as random as the magician makes them appear to be)
One or two stooges is fine. All of them stooges is not. |
