Topic: Mind Bender DVD Best Spoon Bending Ever
Message: Posted by: serge storms (Mar 19, 2005 08:38PM)
Just finished learning Mind Bender, this DVD teaches a new way to do spoon bending using ordinary spoons found in restaurants and most peoples homes. No set up ahead, no switching anything in or out. Looks absolutely fantastic and they actually see the spoon bending as you rub your thumb on it. The best part of this dvd is that it comes with two bonus effects; one is The Holy Grail teaching some great stuff on making coins vanish and appear from hand to hand and a different rubber band link I had not seen before.
All is performed and explained by Chad Sanborn. Effects with ordinary objects like coins, rubber bands and spoons is great material to know allowing you to perform anywhere at anytime. I recommend it to anyone interested in getting into any of these types of effects.
The DVD was $20.00 from http://www.bobsolarimagic.com

I wouldn't say this is the best spoon bending ever. It's good, but there is obviously better stuff out there (PK Silverware). I will admit that the method in Mind Bender is very easy to learn.

I thought the coin routine was good (and Chad does a nice job performing it), but the rubber band effect was weak.

I think there are a lot of DVDs with much more bang for the buck.

This DVD was a good deal back when it first came out about 2 years back. The holy grail is pretty good but really tough. The rubberband effect is very weak and not really magical. The spoon bend idea is really good theoretically. But I found it to be weak practically. I prefer other methods like Benachek's.

I purchased this DVD by Chad Sanborn from Bob Solari on Bob's recommendation and was delighted by the spoon bending routine performed and taught on the DVD. While more complicated handlings and routnes exist out there, I can't imagine a more visual spoon bending routine...and all done with very simple and direct handling. This was good, and one you will use.

Recommended. Plus at $20.00, it's a bargain. Note: two other routines are taught on the DVD, but the spoon bending routine is the killer.

Not a bad DVD. What is good about Chad's bend is it can be combined with other bends and it never leaves the site of the spectator.

Candini,
Good point...I think you could add Chad's bending method to other bending methods to create a powerful routine. With Chad's method, the spoon never leaves the spectators' sight, not even for a moment...this adds a layer of credibility to other moves you may want to incorporate.

The Holy Grail rocks! Unfortunately it became an instant download so you could probably get it now for free like other Penguin Instant downloads in sharewares like Kazaa.

I enjoyed the Mind Bender DVD as it contained magic with a variety of objects (although I agree with what others have said about the rubber band effect being the weaker of the three).
Here are the three effects:

The Optical Bend: The Spoon Bending Routine
- I like this one a lot...pretty easy to do as the spectator sees the spoon bend
while the performer rubs it, each time bending more and more. Very direct handling.
The spoon can be borrowed, no preparation required.

The Master Link: Link regular rubberbands together
- Done with two different coloured rubberbands, the strand of each rubberband
passes through the other and then separate. The entire sequence is short and in my
opinion, not very visual. At first watch, it may even be a bit confusing as to what
exactly is happening. This might work for some people, just not for me.

The Holy Grail: Make coins vanish from hand to hand
- A nice routine using only 3 coins...first the 3 coins are produced one at a time,
then they get "3-fly'd", and finally they vanish one at a time.
The final (third) 3-fly coin is a bit tricky and will take a bit of work.
Overall, I liked this routine and great to be able to do with 3 borrowed coins on the fly.

The DVD is well produced and the effects are taught clearly.
Apart from the 3 effects, there is also a short interview section with Chad Sanborn.

I have just watched this DVD and I love the optical spoon bend its easy to do and its stunning and I am currently writing up a routine to add this to my show.

I personally think that this one of the nicest bends I have seen and the method makes so much sense .

Thank you Chad

When it first came out in '02 or '03, I loved it. I thought the idea behind the spoon bend was really neat. And I still think so too. :)
