Is the effect where you swallow string then needles/razor blades dangerous or 100% safe?

There seems to be a lot of interest about this trick on the Café lately. This is at least the third post inquiring about it. I wonder what brings it to interest at this time. Is someone actually doing a good job performing it?

However, to answer your question, the trick is technically fairly easy to execute. It is generally safe. I would not say that it is 100% safe as you can stick your finger with a pin or cut your thumb with a razor in proving it sharp. However, it is probably safer than producing a rabbit (rabbits can bite!).

I have performed both the Needle and the Razor Blade versions of this trick literally hundreds of times each and have never been injured even once.

Thanks. Oh by the way the person who performed it really well recently was Paul Zennon on his trick or treat show.

NOW I understand why all the interest! It is being done on the tube! Thanks!

No, not on the tube, but in PRAGUE!

Paul is a bizarrist comic street magician who is very good.

Teller does it best.

Yeah I've seen Teller's handling of the effect. Baffling stuff!

There is no way of doing the trick that is 100% safe that does not look dumb. To really make it look good, you have to do it old school. I cringe whenever I see a magician using a cheesy switch device.

Umm, when doing this trick, do you actually swallow a razor blade? Does it come back up if you do, because I can imagine how much that hurts when you go to the bathroom. :fruity:

I was wondering which version Teller (Penn and Teller) performs...his version blew me away and I am still trying to figure it out...

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

No. I don't actually swallow them. But they DO actually go in my mouth.

I did the blades and string and after finishing had blood beging to trickle out of my mouth. Then I stuck my tongue out kind of mumbling in pain and then IT fell out.My first fake tongue was made for me by Kevin James and he and Nicholas Night stood there laughing at me while I had my tongue stuck in a cup of some kind of dental impression goo stuff.I performed it with my sideshow character "Sado the Masochist" and performed it at Knotts Berry farm during their Halloween Haunt.(interesting aside?)Once performing at a comedy club I noticed that I had lost all my blades except the strung load and one extra. I quickly created a concept using the egg from mouth move and miming and tried it up on stage. Chris Blackmore was in the audience and was totally fooled!Necessity became the mother of my new method.Lastly, I DO know that Ken Sands (owner of Magic Galore and More, the hippest underground magic shop in the U.S.(if you guys ONLY knew who shops there) Does needles and swallowed on accidently. Sent to the emergency room he got an x-ray of his dilema.THAT is a momento to remember.
