Topic: Looking for a comedy effect for adults only
Message: Posted by: mfreno (Apr 11, 2006 09:12PM)
I'll be going on a trip with several couples in June and they are always asking me to do some magic. Any suggestions on a good effect for "adult only" comedy?

Years ago I saw Skeets the Magical Clown do a version of Goshman's Magic Ding Dong that was absolutely hilarious. He was tending bar at the New York Lounge in Chicago and most would say his act was XXX rated. Funny thing was he NEVER said anything even remotely obscene. He would lead you down the path, and let you fill in the word/words of your choice in your own mind. It is a technique I have tried to emulate in similar circumstances.

By using suggestion and innuendo many rope tricks or just about anything can become adult themed. Just know your audience and seek to be entertaining instead of shocking. IMHO Naughty is funnier than obscene to most people.

If by 'adult humour' you mean an effect replete with sexual innuendo, my advice is not to do it..... most women may laugh (the 'butt' of this humour is usually biased against them)but I've talked to many in private about this and typically, most really don't find this too funny. People may forget what you did but they won't forget how you made them feel.....and if you've bouyed their spirits or touched them emotionally, that is a very good feeling. Zander's 'Loose Ends' packs light...you need good dialogus though. If you want still want something risque, you could consider 'Naughty Monte'.

Eason's Stan, Kate and Edith would fit in well here.....

Cody Fisher has an adult version of Professor's Nightmare called Sweet Dreams. You can get it at http://www.professionalmiracles.com/CFM%20Products.htm

Do some really good magic and treat them their age............ been doin it for years with ALL type of venues
I know this wasnt what you were looking for but I TRULY think that a good magic routine (ambitious card, card to pocket) could be just as good.

I agree with the Stan, Kate and Edith post.....I consider this as a great fun-filled presentation....quite harmless......I do it in almost every show....wonderful at weddings!

If you're looking for "Stan, Kate and Edith"...don't look up Doc Eason...look up Wireless Wizardry/Kerry Pollack. It's his effect.

Adult humor does not always mean "dirty words" and sexual innuendo. That said...why play down to their level, why not bring them up to yours?
Message: Posted by: airship (Apr 15, 2006 05:14PM)
I agree with Skenes.
Steve Martin can be your inspiration here. Something like:
"It's so nice to not have to play down to a kid's audience for a change. After all, as Eduardo said to Evangeline in D'Arville's 'Le Sansonce de al Fuente', 'Je suis une legume, Vous ette a'loute!' N'est pas? Ha, ha, ha, ha!"

Kerry Pollock and I are finally re releasing the Kate and Edith routine.

The trick comes with the necessary cards that are plastic coated and should last a life time with the proper care...and a dvd covering every aspect of this routine with Kerry's script, my script, Dan Garrett's script, and other lines from working pros such as RJ Owens, Bill Palmer, Bob Escher, Doug Slater and Paul Landry....Plus two 'live in front of a real audience' versions-one of Kerry's and one of mine so they can see several different styles of presentation.... we have attacked this trick from all angles and you will receive this all for the price of $49.95.
Contact me for further information.

At that price, Doc, I hope you're licking the cards for them too. :)

Just a joke. Great trick, great price.

PS: If you use the 'lick the cards' tip, I want a cut....

Tough topic to talk about: Especially when, so many people have different opinions about what ethical and what’s not.

But here is a bit which I use which was shown to me by my good friend Dennis Goodwin {another fine breed of insane magician}.

What you use is and stiff rope the horizontal type, and tell the males in the audience that when I point to the left end of the rope {which I took out of the case already stiff as a board} to say: “ooooohhhhhh”, and to the ladies in the audience that when I point to the right side of the rope they should say: “aaaaaahhhhhh”.

When I point to the middle of the rope they should say all together “mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm”. And so I get them to say the “oohs” and “ahhs” faster and faster until I reach a fevered crescendo, when I point to the middle and they all say “mmmmmmmmmm” I just make the rope go limp.

That’s all there is to it, and I never said a naughty word during the whole routine.

There's a great version of "Night Out With The Girls" by Tony Curtis. I actually have 4 different versions of this (unless you count the one from Bazaar De Magie, then it's 5)...one is for use with women, two are for men (one more risque than the other) and the last is for family use in restaurant work and ends with the "guest check". The more adult versions of this would fit the bill nicely for you.

Kate and Edith are ready to ship! Finally, the dvd is back from the dupe house and it looks great...

I got a "mystery box" from Tannen's once. In the box was a packet trick called "This 'n' That" where you spell out words with the cards. A picture of a pretty girl (actually a pretty lame piece of clip art) appears you spell out one more word and then flip two of the cards while you admit that if your wife finds out about the "dish," you'll be in deep s**t!

I thought it was clever although I've thought of remaking it with a slightly more rakish picture. I did wonder if it belonged in a random "mystery box" though!

Hi. I'm not good at this, but I wish to give an idea. Are you up to cards too? If so, I have something with me which you may 'use'. the vid is silly though. here it is.

I hope it somehow helps.

Adult humor that has inuendo, takes a huge skill set that most don't have.

Don't go down this road, unless you really know what you are doing.

My personal favorite that was good for laughs was Michael Close's one about the king and the dragon. If I can find the trick, I'll post its name here.

My new ebook Groupies Choice is an very funny 'adult' trick.

I love this topic.

cyssa, that was a good vid, thanks for posting it.

I'm my opinion whit Hayden has the best adult jokes, like his linking ring routine. I also like Doc Easons nuts'n bolts trick.

Jim Pace has a levitating match trick where he gets a lady to 'get the match up for him'. I think the books called "A Material".

I've found some success coming up with jokes by doing my tricks with a bunch of my immature friends and writting down the things they say.

I agree.

I also agree. adult humour is like fire eating. It's hard to do and not always appropriate but in the right hands it is great!
