Topic: Free PDF - Mind Switch
Message: Posted by: zallen (Jul 13, 2006 09:36AM)
Hey all,

I have a PDF file that I'm going to give out to several people - I posted a thread in the Inner Thoughts forum, but perhaps due to not including FREE PDF in the title, there hasn't been a huge response.

The PDF has three routines - two deal with the premise of switching thoughts between two people, with tangible proof of this - no dual reality, stooges, etc. The second routine is an extremely straightforward billet routine that I've been using for quite some time now.

All I ask in exchange for the PDF is that you give me some feedback on it. This offer will only be open for a short period of time, and then I'll close it off.

Thanks,

Zach

Ditto for me.

I am very interested in your offer.
Would you send it to me?
Message: Posted by: zallen (Jul 13, 2006 11:32AM)
Thanks for the response guys...

I'm going to cut this off now. Anyone who has PM'd me or posted in this thread prior to this post will receive the file.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts/comments/criticism on the PDF.

Best,

Zach

Being from a different time zone I missed this, I hope I could still make it to the cut off Zach! If not, I understand.

Missed the boat. :(
Message: Posted by: zallen (Jul 13, 2006 02:31PM)
My apologies to all those who missed it...if I had kept it up for a period of time, say 24 hours, there would've been WAY too many people. At the moment, this was more for feedback purposes.

Best,

Zach

Oombob : "you're not too late"

Zach: "you're too late"

oombob: "you're too late"

Zach: "you're not too late"

Heh...The thought switch routine sounds very cool.

Zach,

First, let me thank you for sending me the PDF. Second of all, I want to tell you how great your effect worked in the real world. Easy, direct and powerful!

Yeah, can ANYONE who's not in the same time zone as Zach get in on this?

I was just kidding around. Obviously, itís Zachís material and he is entitled to give it away (or not) at whim.

Is this the same Zach that was to release some sort of new coin in bottle effect?
Message: Posted by: magicduro (Jul 17, 2006 12:33PM)
Please add me to the list.

First off, I wanted to thank everyone who has either taken a look at the e-book or displayed interest in it.

Because I feel bad about some people not getting the chance to ask for it, due to time zones, just missing it, or whatever, I'm going to post the link to download the file. The file will be up for somewhere betwen 24-48 hours. The link stays active for seven days, and I believe I uploaded it last Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

So, I have no exact control over when the link will be taken down. Once the link expires, it will not be put up again nor will I send it out.

All I ask, once again, is that you give me your feedback/comments criticism on the PDF file.

Last but not least, to all those who have given me feedback already, I sincerely thank you, and will write back very soon. I haven't had time to type out replies to all of the excellent thoughts you have given me.

Thanks again!

Zach Allen

I have just read everything in this PDF. The methods are easy (intermediate) and the thinking involved her is very very good. Seeing double is my favorite and I cannot wait to try this out on a few people, once I have had a little time to play with it. I would pay for this type of routine if offered in an e-book, no questions asked IMO. GREAT job ZACH!!!!
Is there a coin effect coming? Sign me up!!

Thank you sir...much appreciated.

I just wanted to post a quick note here, before I can get to the emails and PM's in the next few days.

A few have commented on how the 2nd routine reads good, but they wouldn't perform it due to the fact that it uses cards or requires quite a bit of gimmicked setup. One thought I've been tossing around is that you could easily perform the routine with gaffed notecards with words written on them. This would take it out of the realm of card mentalism and into something completely different. Any flash card sort of thing would work as well.

The other thing I wanted to comment on was that a few people have said that they feel as though the first two effects are just transpositions, and not "thought switching". In this case, yes, the actual base effect is a transposition, but by careful usage of language and scripting, you create the illusion in the mind of the spectator(s) of a thought switch.

Lastly, a few people have commented on how the billet effect is almost identical to a few others they have seen in print. I am in the process of checking that out for myself (not that I doubt their word, but I do like to verify myself), and will post as soon as I have further details. So yes, I am aware of that, and many thanks to those who have pointed that out to me.

Best,

Zach Allen

You may want to check out Tervil in "Practical Mental Magic". You'll notice something interesting.
Message: Posted by: ElliottB (Jul 18, 2006 07:20PM)
Oops. I posted before refreshing my screen. I see you already know about Tervil. Sorry for restating what you already found out.
Message: Posted by: Xiqual (Jul 18, 2006 07:25PM)
Hey Zach,
The second effect is in Anneman. It's called "Tervil" It's also in Mark Striving's
SUC booklet, called "Invisible booktest". Richard Osterlind has a variation with lots of handling tips on his Easy to master mental miracles DVD set.

Great thinking though. I like the first effect a lot.
Thank you for being so generous,
James Linn

That was very kind of you to extend that offer to the rest of us, as a purchaser of your previous material I was very interested in this and now I will have a chance to provide feedback :)

Oddly enough, Iíve never actually performed Tervil. Recently, I did, however, try a similar effect; Al Bakerís ďCo-IncidentallyĒ. IMO, itís not as strong as Tervil, but itís much simpler (especially after I replaced Al Bakerís Tear with a move of my own and his Switch for another custom built move). Itís still a pretty inefficient use of billet moves, but it was kind of fun to try it. OK, enough rambling for now.

Look at it this way. Tervil is considered to be one of the most diabolical billet routines around. It is a testament to Mr. Meyerís genius. Meanwhile, you independently created it. I think that says something very complimentary about your obviously sharp mind. I know I couldnít have come up with something like that.

So where is this Coin in Bottle trick that was spoken about and yet to come to life.

That was a very gracious way of putting it, Elliott.
I believe Zach Allen is a fairly young guy and, even if an effect he created bears some resemblance to one (by Meyer as published in Annemann, in this instance) that debuted many years ago it's nonetheless a tribute to his talent that he independently came up with it himself.
In light of how easy it is for magic creators to entirely innocently and inadvertently "re-invent the wheel" wouldn't it be great of there was a sort of "central registry" of magic principles and already-existing effects which would facilitate creators' pre-release research?
Message: Posted by: zallen (Sep 18, 2006 03:37AM)
Somehow I missed the last few posts of this thread.

Yes, it has come to my attention through several of you that I did independantly come up with a billet routine that has been done by several others before. Everyone was very nice and polite in bringing this to my attention, and I wanted to thank everyone for that as well. This has happened to me several times before, as anyone who creates magic has had it happen.

Of course, that was part of my reasoning for sending this out to people before, both for feedback and crediting purposes.

Lastly, a heads up for everyone - my new website will be going up within the next few days, which will have all of my previous e-books for sale - many at reduced prices - along with a new mentalism e-book and the long awaited Rivers of Babylon Coin through bottle DVD, along with several routines that use the ROB core method for mentalism routines. More details will be available within the next few days.

Thanks to everyone for all of their support!

Zach Allen
