Topic: Nathan Kranzo's "The Moving Tanline" DVD
Message: Posted by: Jay Are (Dec 14, 2006 11:11AM)
Those of you who know me, and who know my background, know that I perform mostly as a mentalist up here in the frozen north. My start in the mystic arts came through Magic however, and I think both can live in harmony...

That said -- I recently acquired Nathan Kranzo's "Moving Tanline" DVD. Which is by nature a "magic" effect (although there is a treat on the DVD for us mentalists!)

The effect itself was first released in a magic magazine a number of years ago -- and to my understanding a number of improvements have been made on the effect since. Hence the new release of the dvd...

I think there is something special to be said about the effect, and I will try to stay as far away from "Hype" as I can in this review -- which may be tough -- because the material here is just that good.

The effect is beautiful. It is different, it is fresh, and it is a fooler. What happens in the moments you perform this borders on the ludicrous. It looks like something straight out of lewis carol...

Watching this done in the performance segment, reminded me of when I had first seen Paul Harris perform some of his effects...

Rewind again...

Watch the effect unfold a third time, trying to discern the method before watching the explanation. And then, being floored by the explanation.

I am sure my fiance could hear the giddy laughter while I was watching the disc...

The effect is great, the method is even better...

The DVD is put together quite well, sound quality was good on my copy, and every step of the effect is covered. You are even given multiple ways to set the effect up for performance. As well several variations on the effect from some top names (Chris Korn and John Kennedy to name two). This effect has been performed on national TV by greats -- including Penn and Teller.

The disc does lack the usual Ellusionist ( The disc is not produced by Ellusionist, but past releases of Kranzo's have) flair. It is put out independently -- and at times that does show. The taping, and cuts, are not pretty -- but the material being covered is clear, and well explained.

You are also provided with an effect called "photographic prediction" which is the perfect lead in for the tanline effect.

Everything is credited and credited well, Kranzo has done his homework!

There is one thing left to be said...

I don't know if I would perform the effect in a "here look at this..." kind of manner. I would perform it if someone were to comment on tanlines during conversation...

This effect performed impromptu -- would devastate people, especially if they didn't know you were a magician.

Get this DVD -- you won't be disappointed!

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions....

Only works if you are not a big beach fan! or seldom go there! otherwise you are gonna get some looks!

great effect though!

It does baffle people and it IS jaw dropping, but I made sure to perform it for people who don't know me! then I found the right "product" to do it for just ANYBODY.

blows them away...another thing that I do is reveal a chosen card...i move the tan line up...pin point to the suit of the chosen card, then where the tan line was originally, the number (white number on the wrist, tan line on the arm but the suit shows there and it's tanned....as if they got seperated ...dunno if I am making any sense)

"Only works if you are not a big beach fan! or seldom go there! otherwise you are gonna get some looks!"

Not true actually. : )

You can have just a slight tan, or a very dark tan. Either way it looks great. I live nowhere near the beach and perform it quite often.

Thanks for your comments and glad you enjoy my effect.

All the best,

I don't have the DVD, but have been performing from the manuscript for a long time. It truly is an excellent effect. Pretty much any time you are ready. It's a jaw-dropper.

I don't usually perform, I'm more of a hobbiest magician. But I did perform this once at Wild Waves after I had just put my items down I figured why not go up to some people and perform Bande du soleil. And this effect killed, Nathan Kranzo is pure genius :)

I downloaded the dvd version instantly from Nate's site and was able to begin playing around with it immediately. I feel I'm getting spoiled when I can immediately satisfy my purchase without leaving the house to go even as far as the mailbox!

Nothing new to add to the reviews except for another two thumbs way up! Great effect, awesome teaching, and just a great and unique weapon to have in the arsenal.

Hi Don,

Thanks so much for your kind post! : )

Yeah the DVD is now available for instant download on my site. This way you can learn the effect in just a few minutes rather than waiting for the DVD to arrive.

All the best,

I have got the DVD a few weeks ago.
And now my sunburn.
The DVD is well produced and contented with it.
With the sunburn I am not contented.
Now I wait for the summer and the faces of the people who see it.

Can someone please tell me the advantages of the DVD versus the manuscript of it that I already own....I'm trying to decide if it's worth a look when I own the written form. Thanks.

If you read the DVD description on my website you can see all the new material metnioned.

A new way to set up, new routines, contributions from some top names in magic, variations that deal with moving tanlines on other parts of the body etc.

Please feel free to PM me if there is anything specific you are looking for.

All the best,

The only bad thing that I have heard about this eefect is that you have to go to a tanning shop. I really do not have the time to do this. BUt other then that I hear only good things. You go Kranzo.

Well if you had the new DVD you would know that's not true.

Sorry you don't have time for the effect, or to research it before posting. : )

I still stand by what I said.
Message: Posted by: Nathan Kranzo (Jan 30, 2007 01:58PM)

You don't own the DVD...you have "heard" wrong. There is nothing for you to stand by but a false statement. I'm glad you like the effect and thanks for helping me promote it.

I heard that you must sunbathe under a Bali noon sun and only in the month of April AND that you have to use a very specific and exotic mixture of mango, coconut and heirloom tomato juices in order to achieve the required tanline.

Is this also TRUE Nathan? Because I really do not have the time or money to do this. But other than that I've heard only good things. You go Kranzo. (lol...love you brother)

peace, charlie

Hi Charlie,

Thanks man....

I needed that. : )

All the best,

P.S. Prohibition rocks...one of the coolest things I've seen in years.

Is it just me or does the last section of this thread make Nathan sound like a complete jerk? You don't have to get so defensive and put people down. Obviously he did research it and he heard something negative. You can set him straight without laying into him. Chill out. Do you need every post to be in your favor to sell your product? Doesn't sound like you have a lot of confidence in it then man.

The negative thing about this trick is that if you have skinny arms, it will not be cool to perform it!

But the effect itself is still awesome!

There is a new effect called Time Stands Still which may be a perfect
lead-in to the Moving Tan Line effect.... :) ..

I know nothing of this effect's method, but I can see myself using this as a weird segue, right after taking a spectator's stolen watch off of my wrist.

Just a thought. Love the effect. What a cool idea for an effect.
