Topic: New effect being released in 2007 "PINCHED"
Message: Posted by: themagicofjoseph (Dec 31, 2006 06:54AM)
Hello Everyone,
I have created a new effect that Blacks Magic Group will be releasing in 2007. James Clark and I have talked a few times about this and he loves the effect.
I started in magic at age 10, as a hobby growing up. I'm 50 now and been doing paid close-up gigs for 8 years now along with mentalist shows. We all have heard of metal bending, well, this is a "Metal Melting" effect! Easy to do, great reactions.
A 1 3/4" Aluminum roof nail (spiral shaft....I remove the black gasket that comes with it) is placed between the fore finger and thumb. When the fingers are opened, it seems like the nail has been "Pinched" almost flat and leaves deep impressions of the fingers in the nail. It can be done in your fingers, their fingers or a combonation of you and them. It can be marked (sharpie the head)then given out for them to keep, or not marked. This is my first effect that I will be releasing. James said that one of the people he forwarded my video and pictures to is Banachek, a few others have looked at it and are pleased with it. I don't know the exact date of its release but is was in Blacks Magic Group newsletter around Christmas time as up coming releases. Close-up has been my passion as I like the interaction with folks, so I decided to try and release my baby to give something back to magic as it has been so good to me thru out the years. The effect is called "Pinched".
Magically,
Joseph

A write up will be released in the new Street Magic magazine, due out this month by Blacks Magic Group. No public video at this time. But James did say that he made five copies of what I sent to him and that he forwarded them to five close personal friends to look at for their impression of this effect. One of them he said was Banachek. He is my all time favorite, very good material, good mind food. So far they say in the "metal bending" field; metal has always bent and this is the first time for a metal "Melting" effect.
The reactions really are great because no one imagines metal melting. Even if they think... "it's a metal bending trick" (you do get some of them people), when they open the fingers and see deep finger impressions in both sides, it floors them.
Magically,
Joseph

Congratulations, Joseph, and best of luck! I'm looking forward to reading more about it when Street Magic debuts.

I have sent links out to friends and will report on it in SM when it hits the stands. However, let me point something out real quickly about Hoe's post. I do consider Banachek a friend, but it would be inappropriate to call him a "close" friend. I know him; we exchange ideas and he is very supportive but I did not say he and I were close. Because I respect him very much, I do not want to give the wrong impression or let posts like the above go unchecked; things can quickly be taken out of context and I wouldn’t want that to happen. He is too good of a guy t disrespect him; so thanks for letting me point that out.

Regards,

James
