You better be there this year as I'll be looking for you.

Payne your correct....Brian says he will be there every year and then???????? Does Brian really exist? Hmmmmmm

Hey guys,
Be nice! My financial situation is much better this year. And I had just got married last year before the convention, so 125.00 was a bit steep last year. This year, no problemo! :) I look forward to seeing you guys. It have not been to one in 3 years.

Stans get together is a blast! To hear him talk about his days as a big time stage magician are tough to swallow if you know anything about his past, but give the geezer a break and show up this year.As Brian mentioned, there are some big names on the bill this year...should be fun,as usual!

I'll be there as well. This year there will be at least 3 of us from Ring 364.

Brian, it will be good to see you again.

Payne, are you going to be a close up judge again this year? ;)

Pete, are you going this year?

Hopefully I will be competeing again this year if I can get my act together. Not that I ever do well at this convention but it's always fun to get onstage and muddle trough a routine or two.

See you there Kip.....Brian

It will be good to see the gang from Vancouver again. I've heard it said that there is a magical something in your water up there. Bring me a bottle.

Just registered, and CAN'T WAIT!!!! What a line-up!! Looking forward to some sleepless nights, and seeing you all there.

So... how many of you stay at the hotel, and how many of you just sleep in your car at Kramien's??
Message: Posted by: Brian Proctor (Jan 30, 2007 09:39PM)
Thank God I live only 30 minutes away. I couldn't stand to drive from Boise or Vancouver! But I understand one point... ITS WORTH IT!
Message: Posted by: Magiguy (Jan 31, 2007 07:56PM)
I didn't hear back from you guys (gals) so I went ahead and booked a room. I guess the party's at my place. Who needs some floor??
Message: Posted by: MagicianSilver (Jan 31, 2007 08:34PM)
I have signed up and am looking forward to this convention within 600 miles of my back yard. Everyone in my Ring says that Stan puts on one of the finest conventions around. Of course you hae to take into consideration the source of Master Payne and Brian Cook. Neither of which, can be trusted. I hear they put celophane and mayo on the toilet seats in the campground so watch out. In any event, I'm camping in the motorhome right on Stan's property just to be safe. See you all there.

I'm almost excited (as the "final decision" is pending on my wife's approval...) to say I will be there this year! Steve Brooks and I are trying to get some of our local club members together to make this a fun road trip as well!

Honestly, Caveny, Lenert, Mac King, John Carney, David Williamson, Charvet, Andrus... with names like this, I'd hate to miss it!!!

I'm wondering about camping out... is it as much fun as is sounds, or do you opt for the nearby motels? What are the competitions like too? I may compete...

-Bryan
Message: Posted by: Kipp Sherry (Feb 17, 2007 03:43PM)
Bryan,

I tried talking Steve into coming this year. Is he coming with you for sure or is he waiting on his wife's okay as well?

In Oregon you take a chance on it raining in the spring. Take your chances on camping out. I would suggest a motor home or a nearby motel.

The competitions are great fun. Real laid back. But I can speak from experience when I say, make sure your routine appears original.

Until we appear again,

I booked at the Travelodge. Great price (about $50/night), and about 6 miles away from Kramien's.

Yup the travel lodge is where the party is at..but they sell out fast. Brian

Coolio,

What time does everything wrap up on Saturday night?
Message: Posted by: bcookmagic (Feb 19, 2007 11:23PM)
The show ends around 10ish on Sat but then the party can sometimes go all night.....remember to check the pool area....we start there for the most part. I worked things out with the manager many years ago to let us use the pool all night....last year we got a bit worked up but still kept things under control. Kip thanks for the fun words...a fun time will be had by allllllllll. Brian

I will have to stop by the Travelodge to join the party.

I missed the show lat year due to business commitments but we will be ther for sure this year as we do our best to never miss Stan's Jamboree.
It truly is one of the most fun conventions you will attend.

Hey Payne,
Congrats on the writeup in Magic Magazine. For those of you that didn't catch it, see the April 2007 issue, bottom of page 93.

Brian Proctor,
Looks like we'll have 4 coming from Ring 364 in Boise, Idaho including the man our Ring is named after, Chazz, you'll be able to catch him in lecture.

Bryan Gilles,
Is Steve Brooks committed to coming?

Brian Cook,
How many hours till party time?

Boy, with all these Brian's (Bryan's) coming, this could turn into a Monty Python convention...."The Life of ....."? :)

Until we appear again,
Kipp Sherry

Holy Crap! I got back into town just a bit ago. I had the best time at the Jamboree. It is not a regular convention, it is a convention on roids!
I missed half the stage and close up contests because I was having too much fun hanging out with David Williamson, John Carney and Jamie Grant, Brian Cook, Becky, Mac King, and just countless Café members!
Seriously we need to talk to Stan about making it a 3 day convention. This 1-1/2 day stuff is not enough.

And if anyone has the phone number for Matthew Stevens, he lives in Beaverton, OR, please PM me. He is just a cool cat like the rest of the people who attended.

Hart, I am going to work my butt off on some of that stuff that you and Ben showed me. You guys are hardcore!

If you had gone you'd have already known. You also would have seen first hand one of those shows that will become legend. Cavney Emceeing a full evening show with Carney, King, Lennert, Williamson and a special unplanned appearance by the legendary Mr. Mysto presenting scores of classic illusions in a matter of a few short minutes culminating with shooting Tina Lennert across the room in a cannon! Truly a show that will never be seen again and for good reason.

Sterling Dietz won Best Stage (of course)
Master Payne won Best Close Up (with a really stupid trick)

I just got back from the convention, this is my 3rd year and the entertainment was unbelievable. Mac King, David Willliamson, John Carney, Mike Caveny, and Tina, what a lineup. Lectures and vendors were great also. As for the contest winners, the closeup was won by Payne from Seattle. The stage competition was won by a young kid named Sterling Dietz. Keep an eye on this talent!!!!

Hey Payne,
You are so right. The Saturday nite show was something so special that words cannot describe it. Legendary evening may be the best way. I laughed so hard that my stomache is stll sore. It was something we will talk about for years and years to come. We talked about it all the way home today. By the way, congrats on a stupid trick with a great story. Well done.

Hey there, I just got home at 11pm....darn canadiens ...LOL WOW what a convention. The closing act was worth 10 times the price of the convention. It was great seeing everyone and meeting new friends like Jamie. Congrats to everyone who won awards at the contests....I need sleep now and will report more tomorrow. B
Message: Posted by: Brian Proctor (Apr 30, 2007 10:21AM)
Sterling! Holy crap! You put on one hell of a stage act. I am glad I got to see it. It was like watching a young Jeff McBride. I hope you are performing at next years get together.

One more thing that was really awesome for me, was sitting down with Steve Dobson and just kickin' it with cards! He seriously has hands of gold! Steve, if you read this, hit me up, we need to get together again and session.

Anyone know when Rick Anderson will have the photos ready?

It was another great Magic Jamboree and one that will certainly be hard to top. Fantastic talent, great location and food, and a friendly and fun crowd. Thank you Mr. Kramien (and family and staff) for a fun and magical weekend. I'm already looking forward to next year's gathering.

A fantastic weekend! A couple of highlights for me were spending about 15 minutes with David Williamson working out some details on the top change. He's a real down to earth guy.
I also hung out with one of the fellas who lectured. His name is Chazz and not only did he teach me some cool stuff, but we just kicked it and talked about life.
A genuinely cool guy who I hope to stay in touch with.

Hart and Ben... You guys are cool and I appreciate you taking the time to work on that pass with me. Hope to meet up with you fellas again sometime soon.

I can't wait til next year!

Later,

Rudy Tinoco

Whats up guys!!!! I had a great time as well! The last show was worth the price of admission! Mac King and David Williamson had me falling out of my chair! Good times!!!!

Someone mentioned Mr. Mysto, Carney's alter ego, did I miss it or were you just joking around?
Message: Posted by: MagicianSilver (Apr 30, 2007 12:24PM)
Thanks Brian, I appreciate the compliment and comparison. All of us emulate, and hopefully not imitate, our styles from someone we respect and admire, and I do respect and admire Jeff, along with many others. I am young and still finding out who Sterling is. That is a goal each of us must strive for. One day it is my hope that my peers will say "that young magician reminds me of a young Sterling". But until that day, I am honored to be compared or mentioned in the same breath of a great magician.
On another note, the Kramien experience was something very special to me. It's like something from an era where family and friends are just as important as the magic. What a truly wonderful and intimate time I had. Special thanks to everyone of you that were there.(oops, bell rang back to class!)
Message: Posted by: Brian Proctor (Apr 30, 2007 12:32PM)
Also Sterling, your act had some good music. The rest of the acts with music, not so much... ;)
Message: Posted by: bcookmagic (Apr 30, 2007 12:43PM)
What do mean Brian...Chris Banges music was awsome....oh wait that's right..his music was never played...LOL B
Message: Posted by: Astrid (Apr 30, 2007 01:54PM)
WOW!!! What a convention!!! It has been said several times, but I've gotta say it again....that closing act will never be topped!! There were some GREAT competitors this year too! Chris, Sterling, Philamon, Trevor and Lorena,......yeah yeah.....and Payne takes it again! LOL Can't wait till next year!
Message: Posted by: Magiguy (Apr 30, 2007 03:40PM)
Too true! I can't imagine a better show, or a better weekend, or better company to share it all with. The Jamboree is the best time I've had in years and years. It was great meeting up with some of the folks from the Café, hanging out with David Williamson, meeting Mac King, John Carney, Mike Caveney & Tina Lenert, cheering and watching the Seattle crew win the awards (most of them, anyway), on and on and on...! The only sad point was the realization that Jerry Andrus would not be there; a reminder of the seriousness of his present condition.

The Saturday night show was legendary and will likely be remembered years from now. Although I can't imagine a better show or future line-up, I'm already looking forward to registering for next year. Can't wait to see all the photos!
Message: Posted by: Philemon Vanderbeck (Apr 30, 2007 04:10PM)
The highlights for me were the Mac King lecture, the David Williamson "lecture," and the Saturday Night Show!

And even though Payne beat me in the Close-Up Competition with a "Six Card Repeat," I'm happy that I finally won an award at Kramien's too (even if it was just 3rd place). :devilish:
Message: Posted by: bcookmagic (Apr 30, 2007 04:29PM)
Hey there Philimon, Yes Payne beat you with a 6 card repeat but your act was very well done. The main reason he beat you is he through a sleight in the beginning in that he actually practiced and didn't flash......too much. Well Mac King even told Payne he has to stop now.....LOL Congrats to all. Brian
Message: Posted by: Philemon Vanderbeck (Apr 30, 2007 06:09PM)
So, you're saying I would've have beat Payne if I had thrown in a French Drop into my act? (As long as I remembered not to point) :devilish:

I was standing next to Mr. Kramien while Sterling was performing. Just as the act ended, Stan said "That boy's going to be the opening act next year!" His staff grabbed Sterling from behind the stage and took him directly over to Stan.

I think the only thing that will keep Sterling away from the convention next year will be if Stan cannot afford him by then.

Can someone who saw David Williamson's lecture on friday night fill me in on what happened with a video camera?

I had to leave right after the Mac King lecture.

Message: Posted by: MagicianSilver (May 1, 2007 10:56AM)
Hey Brian,
I wish I could duplicate the events of the lecture camcorder incident, but that would be like trying to stop a runaway train by jumping in front of it. It cant seriosly be done. In my weak attempt it started out with a 10 year old kid video taping his lecture. Instead of taking offense and asking hiim to please not do that he brought the kid on stage for a better view and then proceeded to make it look on camera, that he was smacking the kid around for trying to put his stuff on You Tube. A very funny skit that came off as very impromptu. It is this comedic skill of using the audience that I admire most in David Williamson and Mac King, that keep thier performances so fresh. They have the ability to do serious improv with their magic. That only comes from doing thousands of shows, and years of experience. It became very evident on the Saturday night show when after going through Kramien's props from his old touring days they( Mr. Mysto, Caveny, Lenart, King,David Charvet, and David Williamson came up with a show that I am not sure could ever be duplcated, nor should it!!! It has become one of those moments that will be forever locked in my brain. I think we all got a glimpse of their brilliance that night. Sorry Brian that I could not explain your question better.

Hey Sterling,

It was good getting to know you and your dad. It was a lot more than our chance meeting Las Vegas. I looked at your video, your very well rounded. My 17 year old daughter thinks your cute. Keep up the good work and you'll go far.

Hiya Gang,

Well, I left from Kramien's directly to Florida where I'm typing this from the beach. Life is good, lol. Anyway, I'll go into more detail later but I wanted to send out a blanket Thank You to everyone who stopped by the booth and said "Hi!'. It was an absolute pleasure meeting everyone in person and I had a fantastic time. Even my wife lived through it, which means a lot, lol.

Again, you guys (and gals) were great,

jamie

Thanks Kipp,
I am glad you liked the video. It was my hope that it would show more of my range in magic versus just my competition routines. My dad always says that people and opportunities will come into your life, and most of the time not by coincidence. I enjoyed spending time with you, and Chaz. Also thanks for your words of encouragement concerning my magic.

Kipp,
Great meeting you, too!

See you next year, if not sooner!

I echo everyone's comments about this being a once in a lifetime convention. This is my fourth Jamboree and this one was just plain unbelievable. Not only were the lectures and shows fantastic but the headliner magicians made themselves very available to everyone. I really can't think how one could top this.
Did anyone else feel like their ear drums exploded from the one act's explosion in the escape routine. After their act ended Stan said he couldn't even think what to say. Sitting as close as Stan was I truly believe he was shell shocked for a few minutes.
For me the funniest part of the evening was seeing David Williamson make the one boy spit out the fig newton into David's hand and then turn around and offer it to the little girl. My god, the guy was just insane that night.
Message: Posted by: Brian Proctor (May 2, 2007 09:34AM)
I seriously missed out by taking off early. However I had some commitments to stick to. But next year I will stay the entire time. I really wish Stan would make it 2 full days or 3 days instead of the 1-1/2 days. But then again the prices would have to jump to cover the extra day.
Message: Posted by: MagicianSilver (May 2, 2007 10:46AM)
I have come to realize that Stan is old school. Not knowing much about him I googled him in. http://www.stevensmagic.com/featuredstory/Kramien/index.htm and http://www.stevensmagic.com/gemini/Stan%20Kramien/TheNittyGrittyPart1.htm
the statement "Leave them begging for more" is a lesson for us all, that Stan ovioulsy understands.

You should throw your hat back into the ring. Lord knows I could use the competition. I've got Marie interested in doing my Sub-Trunk routine next year for the stage contest. Unless I can convince Stan to put it in the Saturday Show.

Payne I might do that...but getting up hung over to judge is always fun times... :) Great job Payne and Sterling and all the others that walked away with awards. I overheard Stan saying it was about time to have you on the show.....well he said that to me last year and I wasnt on this years show so...Hmmmmmm I guess good luck...LOL Brian
Message: Posted by: Payne (May 2, 2007 01:10PM)
Yeah, now that Mac King has told me to stop competing I'll have to wiggle my way into the evening shows.

We should convince Stan to let us do the All "Seattle Stars of Magic Show" on Friday since we have the preponderance of the prize winners up here and we could most likely bring downa sound system that works.
Message: Posted by: bcookmagic (May 2, 2007 01:25PM)
LOl yeah that would be fun and we definatly have the talent...heck it would be our normal smoke and mirrors show. I may just have to send Stan an email on that. Brian

PS and I can bring my sound system down...theres has to many issues.

Sad news from George Olson (from the Genii Forum)...

"Stan Kramien was admitted to the Hospital following a heart attack on May 11th. As many of you know, Stan's "Jamboree" was the end of April, and he was kind of run-down (he didn't know he had pneumonia and things just happened. I visited him yesterday and he was anxious to go home tomorrow (Saturday the 19th). So if you've got a minute, drop him a note or give him a call. I know he would appreciate it!:

his home number is 503 277 2478. His e-mail address is on his website stankramien@yahoo.com. "
Message: Posted by: SteveFromSpokane (May 28, 2007 01:31PM)
That was sad to hear that Stan had a heart attack. The big question will be the extent of damage to his heart muscle. Am going to send him a get well email and I hope some of the others who were at the Jamboree will do likewise.

On a side note regarding the Jamboree does anyone know if they are going to be selling a DVD of that Saturday night's performance?
Message: Posted by: bcookmagic (May 28, 2007 06:47PM)
Hey there, I just heard from Stan who is at home and seems to be doing well....I know that the Sat show was taped but I have a feeling that it wont be sold or seen. I think it was shot just for the performers and for Stan...but man do I hope they sell it. Brian
