Topic: Walking around with a bottle (prohibition)

Did my first walk around gig in a while last night and wanted to use Prohibition as one of the effects that I did. This trick is better, I think, if you can borrow the bottle, but since none were available, I decided to carry one with me.

I'll tell you, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. The bottle, with the cap on, fit nicely in my back pocket. From what I could see, there wasn't really any noticeable bulge under my jacket. I presented the effect as a problem solving exercise. After letting the spectators look at the bottle, I'd take off the cap and ask if there was any way to get the cap in the bottle. If they say no, I would, "Ahh, but there is..." and bring out the cap(s) show them how it goes in the bottle. If they figure out that it needs to be bent, then I exclaim "Yes, exactly!" and again bring out the cap, blah blah blah...

It worked really well. The trick went over great. And of course, there many confused and quizzical looks, usually followed by, "Can I see the bottle?" I love being able to say, "Sure man, check it out."

If you were hesitant about carrying around a bottle, I would encourage you to try it. Prohibition was definitely one of the best effects I did all night.

Here's a GREAT bottle to use if you're going to carry one around anyhow.

LANDSHARK beer makes the perfect bottle. The clear plastic labels peel right off and it looks exactly like the one on the DVD cover. Clear, clean and lots of room on the neck for when you want the spectator to hold the bottle during the penetration.

Glad to hear you're digging it my man. Have fun!

peace, charlie

Charlie,
I have been having so much fun with Prohibition. It gets such a strong reaction. When I'm working at the bar, it is no problem, of course, to borrow a bottle. But, at the restaurants, it is more difficult. I just produce a bottle from a napkin and then go into the routine. I've said this before on another thread for this trick, but, if you want to increase the impact of this trick, have the spectator sign the inside of the cap you are going to penetrate. Michael Close talks about the difference between belief and conviction. When they pour out the cap and then open it up to see their initials (or whatever), you have achieved conviction.

Well, if you want to do Prohibition and there aren't any bottles present, you kinda do need to carry one. :)

Part of the reason for posting this was to let magicians know that 1, carrying around a bottle was pretty easy. It took up no additional space for me (since I don't normally carry anything in my back pockets and it really didn't show a bulge). And 2, no one seemed to question or even care about me carrying the bottle with me.

Magicians need props to do magic. If you like Prohibition, carry a bottle with you.

Though I will say that I might need to look into a bottle production now. That was good advice.
