Topic: "How did you do that" funny responses

Everybody uses "Very well" or if they think they know "OK don't tell anyone and neither will I" But recently, I have been looking forward to being asked this question recently because:

Give me a call later on I'll tell you (Hand out blank business card!)

(A Personal Favorite with sincerity:)
OK OK... basically ... the hand is quicker than the thigh.

I need far more heckling than THAT to tell you... weeks at least.

"How did you do that"?

- Christian science and rubber bands.
- The secret to this trick was handed down by my Great Grandfather, who taught it to my Grandfather, who taught it to my Father, who sold it to me.
- If I tell you some guy from the Magicians Union named “Guido the Great” will come break both my hands.
- Years of practice and self denial. I have no life.
- Anybody can do it… with 20 years of practice.
- I honestly don't know!
- Do what? This is perfectly normal stuff for me.
- Most people ask me WHY I do that.
- It's no fun if you know how it's done.
- I don't know but it kept me out of the service (draft).
- I'll take that as a compliment.
- A misspent youth.
- Come back here to this exact spot 24 hours from now, and I'll tell you then.
- I learned it in prison.
- I can't tell you out loud but are you familiar with the “Vulcan mind meld?”
- Can you keep a secret? Good, so can I.
- You don’t want to know.
- Ancient Chinese Secret!
- Do you really want to know? (many people will actually say “no”)
- He taught it to me, ask him/her – (Point to another spectator)
- Please stick around, there will be a short debriefing after the show.
- Glad you asked. I can’t tell you, but glad you asked.
- I’m a prodigious prestidigitator.
- I cheat.
- It works on the same principal as microwave popcorn.
- You’ll find the answer in the back of my book- but only the odd numbered tricks.
- Let’s back up – “ eicsh nic oh biet onny obiedot” (sound like a record played backwards. I don’t know!

No need to be funny..just smile, (wink it's your style) and say, "smoke and mirrors", then move on. You make the point without making a big deal out of it.

OR....you could tell them that you are using a special machine created by Tesla.

It's so easy a caveman can do it

PMS.....
Pure Magic Skill

There are some interesting philosophies on this so you do not get people angry at you.
Another idea is to say sure, but eveyone takes the magic oath...
Everyone raise your hand and repeat afeter me..
I state your name.. promise not to say, what other poeple tell em to say!
I got this idea froma Bill Malone tape :)

I really like the Oath, JSBloom and Bill Malone, thanks. It's perfect for a crowd. With Kids I usually say that I haven't got that far in the book yet. There's always Wiffledust, but that don't come cheap......How about "I learned it on the internet" at gotnofriends.com...

I like to read them a story about a mouse in a windmill.

They usually forget what they asked me and I walk off.

A magician recently pointed out to me that when people ask "How did you do that?", they are either asking rhetorical question in order to express amazement or are expressing a genuine interest in me and my magic.

So I have started to be a little more genuine in my responses. Instead of a flippant throw away remark I will give an answer which is interesting and engaging.

My newest line when asked how I did it...............................
I'm not really sure, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Some people will remember SOME catch phrases from a movie or a TV show, but almost EVERYBODY remembers commercials.

"Do you want to know the secret? You sure? before I tell you the secret, I have totell you some good news-"

I just saved a bunch of money on car insurance by switching to Geico
