Topic: Needle Thru Balloon - which version?
Message: Posted by: Vraagaard (Oct 4, 2007 06:39AM)
A question - is there any difference between

Needle Thru Balloon (as seen on Hocus-Pocus.com)

Or

Super Needle Thru Balloon (as seen on tannes.com)

It seems that "super" version allows for pulling a thread or ribbon thru the balloon also. The price is different too 15 USD for Super and 7,95 at Hocus-pocus.

Any recommendations?

It says:

SUPER NEEDLE THRU BALLOON

This is the effect that’s been taking everybody by storm, and its no wonder! If you were to list the things that make a magic trick GREAT, you’d find them all here, and then some!

Right before their eyes, you blow up a transparent rubber balloon, then slowly and deliberately, you push a long needle into one end and out the other. Its real, its leg it, and there are no gimmicks used. Forget about the old “pin into balloon” tricks, this one is different and how! Threaded on the needle is a length of string or ribbon and you can now pull the needle completely out of the balloon, leaving it strung on me string which passes right through the balloon. For a rousing climax, toss the balloon into me air, stab at it with the point of the needle, and the balloon bursts with a resounding “Bang!” This is magic at its best and we supply everything you need including extra balloons.

Both allow for pulling a thread or ribbon throught the balloon (though I rarely do it that way). Super Needle is a thicker, sturdier version. I would recommend this one over the standard version.

Either way, you'll want to be sure to purchase additional balloons.

If you already know how to do it, just go to a fabric store and get a long upholstery needle. It's much cheaper that way.

I like Alan's method. I'm also a "do it your-selfer" and always prefer this option whenever possible.

I bought a great prop to go with needle through balloon. It's a magic wand and the inside of the wand is made from cork. I use it with the needle facing the other way so I can perform splash bottle on stage with the wave of a wand,

What type of thread or ribbon or yarn do you find most effective (that is, most visible and least likely to pop the balloon)?

Hi Frank,

Splash bottle is a gimmick that allows a production of a bottle...( Wine, water, champagne,...). You can produce it from a burst balloon, paper bag,... I produce it from silks. Here a link:

Good Idea Diane. It beats the h... out of pulling out a knife calling it a "business card" (the old joke). A magic wand is much better for my personal style.

Just ordered it.

Back in the late 70s and early 80s we combined needle through balloon with needle through arm. We used the same needle but without the blood.

When the is set to be produce, does it have to be immediately, or can other tricks be performed within the time?

Dynamike: Once loaded on you, you decide when to do the production. You do not have to do it right away.

Frank:
No problem! It is a nice gimmick. It does what it is supposed to do, and does it well.

With the Splash Bottle, can the bottle be produced by either the top or bottom?

(Specifically, there are gimmicked bottles that allow the production of a dove after the bottle production. However, too much "tug" will wreck the train. It is better to pull from the bottom.)

PS --- I like the idea of popping a bubble to get a bottle of champagne and then seeing birds.

Hummm... Maybe we should start a new thread on the splash bottle!

You get the bottle out of the gimmick by pulling the neck of the bottle (you do need some tugging...) . Depending on how you make the production, you may end up holding the bottle for all to see by holding it in both hands (as when the balloon bursts), neck of bottle (pulling it out of an empty paper bag...), or bottom (when I produce it from silks...). Note that this method allows for the production of an "ungimmicked" bottle (although you could possibly use it to produce a gimmicked one)! Therefore, if also producing doves, make sure you don't accidentally knock the bottle on them while still in their harness!

Bob, I like your idea too!

Have a nice day,

The classic is the Super-needled balloon by Boretti and it is enhanced if you use the needle wand (I have one for sale). There was also a mini needle version. The difference is the rust factor. The Boretti I have for 25 years(no rust). It was originally imported by Accent products.
Here is my very unique presentation in response to a routine for the needle thru balloon. It is a video I just posted of a TV show I did in the 70's. My version. I was just a pup back then.

I had a wand case for the needle that had Vaseline in it for the tip. This was years ago.
