Topic: Friday night...why no gig?
Message: Posted by: stoneunhinged (Nov 23, 2007 11:37AM)
The music forums where I post are generally dead on weekends.

The Café goes wild on weekends.

Last weekend I didn't post much. I had a gig. A music gig.

Since I, in spite of all the money I've spent, in spite of all the time I've spent practicing, have not yet given a magic performance for money, I am very confused about this. And I want to be enlightened.

Do magicians generally get gigs during the week and spend their weekends at the Magic Café?

Or are there simply too many magicians on the Café who aren't actually working?

Or are some of you so obsessed with the Café that you take a laptop to your gigs so you can post during the breaks?

This is a serious question. As I said: musicians (the normal kind; not the superstar Eric Clapton kind) do most of their work on weekends in bars, so they aren't posting in internet forums. But a Friday night here at the Café is a veritable orgy of conversation.

Why is that?

I perform every Friday and Saturday night as a DJ and most of my magical performances are during the days on Saturday and Sunday. I come on to the Café late in the morning (3am ish) because I am still hyper from the gig (just ask Freak Prodigy about late night craziness).

I am a little too busy making babies, to work at the minute.

It only takes 2 minutes a day...or is that just me?

Yes, I'm afraid so.

I also have people to stalk. Research, ya know.

I'm pretty much retired from performing at the moment but I think that the 80/20 rule applies again. 80% of those here do not perform, will never perform, and think they perform. The rest are either occassional performers up to full time busy pros. The full time pros are likely in the low double digits of the membership.

If it's just you, then you wouldn't be making babies...

I almost never get on the Café on weekends. From Friday afternoon until Monday morning, I rarely sit down at a computer. Even on the rest of the days, you will rarely see me between 5 and midnight. I'm either in rehersal or performing.
From my perspective, the most "dead" time on the Café is Monday. My posts stick to the top of forums for hours. Drives me nuts.
Like now.
I hate Mondays.
