I thought I would share this for the benefit of you guys who do kids shows with doves...

I use a drop box to put the birds in after producing them. The box also has a few props in it.

I was doing a kids show in a not so nice area of the city. I never turn down shows of course based on areas or whatever, I've done many shows literally right in the "ghetto".

I Should have known this would be a strange show when the parents were all drinking
40's of beer and kept offering me a 40 oz malt liquor or jello shots... :)

So last sunday I am doing a kids show in an area like that. The birthday boy was turning 7 years old. I asked little jimmy to come up and help me with a trick.

The drop box was on the floor and there is a a big hole in the top of the box, so you could see in. This has never been a problem until this show. There happens to
be a paper bag and a rubber dove in the drop box.

So little Jimmy comes up to help me and he's helping me but keeps looking down into the box. Before I could move the box or cover the opening little jimmy says :

HEY! There's a dead ****** BIRD IN THAT BOX!

Before I could do anything, other kids rushed to look in the box.
Another little boy, about the same age as little Jimmy yells :

HE'S RIGHT! THERE IS A DEAD ******* BIRD IN THAT BOX!
Now remember, these kids were like 7 or 8 years old.

I lost my composure a bit but I said no no its a rubber bird. I took the rubber bird out and showed it all around. Another kid again, about 7 or 8 then yells :

HE'S TRYING TO TRICK US, THAT BIRD MAY BE A ******* RUBBER BIRD, THE DEAD BIRD IS
STILL IN THAT ******* BOX! THIS MAGICIAN IS FULL OF ****!

Okay so now I really just lost it and started laughing. I looked to the parents to
correct the kids... NADA. I opened the box, showed all the birds were certainly alive
and put them back in the box. The kids sat back down and settled down.

Little jimmy looks at his friends and says "THIS GUY MUST BE A GOOD MAGICIAN".
God I don't know why but I asked "Really jimmy, why?"

Little Jimmy says "BECAUSE, YOU BROUGHT THE DEAD BIRD BACK TO LIFE. that's *******
AWESOME!".

Finally, The mother gets up. AND YELLS :

"OKAY NOW YOU ******* little monsters, THERE IS NO DEAD ******* BIRDS, NOW SIT THE
**** DOWN AND SHUT THE **** UP!

I continued with my show, after I stopped laughing that is.

The moral of the story is never bring a ******* rubber bird to a ghetto show!

:)

I suggest having an air horn so each time a little one swears you can blast them in the ears, or perhaps produce a bar of dove soap and see how much they like the taste lol.

Crazy story and thanks for sharing!

I'm always causious when the customer has a bunch of posters and paintings of
"Scarface" hanging on the wall.

Were the jello shots for the parents, or the kids? :)
