Topic: Annoying Little Pop-ups

Does anyone else get those annoying little pop-up messages that say Messenger Service on the top? If so, can someone tell me how to get rid of them? They're really starting to bug me...

Maybe it's your browser or a so called "spyware". You can remove some spyware with the help of BHO Cop or AdAware.

Good Luck

I use a program called "PopNot". It seems to work pretty well. It's not freeware, but it's fairly cheap.

I highly recommend this one from Panicware. It is free, configurable, and I have used it for about 10 months.

I have AOL 8.0 and right on the bottom of the screen is a "blocking popups" window and I never get any popup ads

Thank gawd - I'm way too stupid to have to install anything

If you have software installed that is linked to GAIN, I have a solution.

In other words, say you find some software you like and want to install it. But, in order to do so, you must install GAIN. GAIN is out in the open spyware...they will send you pop-up ads galore whenever you visit certain websites. Anyway, you cannot install the program without also installing GAIN.

If this is the case, and you are running Windows XP, do this. Click your start button, click "Run", type "msconfig" without the quotes and then OK. Scroll down, looking for GStartup under startup item, or something that ends in GMT.exe/Startup in the command line. This is Gain. Click the checkbox to the left to un-check it. Now, GAIN will not run whenever you start up the computer, only when you specifically run the program, which should be never.
