Topic: Themed shows for schools
Message: Posted by: templemagic (May 10, 2003 02:12PM)
Hi,

I am interested in putting together a couple of shows for schools with themes such as drug awareness and road safety. Can anyone give me any advice on putting together shows like these and how to structure them? I know it isn't an original idea so does anyone out there do this already and how do you go about doing it?

Thanks
TM

Hi TM:

I can point you in the direction of a very good resource. There is a magician here in the states that puts out a cassette tape course on the subject you're asking about. His name is Dave Risley and his tape course costs about $85.00 USD.

He gives details on a number of themed-shows, even going over the specific tricks/routines he uses. He has about eight or nine different shows that he details.

Anyway, I found it very helpful - I think you will too. You can check out the tape series at his website http://www.daverisley.com

There is a good effect called 'Road Code' which uses a set of blocks representing a set of traffic lights. The effect culminates in the production of a roadside beacon. I'm sure this effect would be useful for road safety shows. I'm not sure who sells this effect though. :D

Contains a CD ROM that includes: ALL Marketing Materials (flyers, letters, postcards and more!) and Teacherís Guides. PLUS THE PERFORMANCE RIGHTS TO THE SHOW! [/quote]

Here is a ready to go program and a pattern for other educational programs. The first show you book pays for the program.

It looks good, it's new and I ordered it for personal evaluation.

I am pleased to report that four top pros with extensive experience in schools will be offering a two day seminar on the topic later this year in Florida, New Jersey and Hollywood (at the Magic Castle). Check out http://www.magicsuccessseminars.com for more information. (Oh yes...I'll be there.)
