My new website is almost done: http://detroitmichiganmagician.com/ Any suggestions?

Dynamike,

Wow! Kudos to you for getting a professional website. Despite it's flash content, it has a clean, magical, and easy to navigate appearance. However, things to think about:

1. Your pictures and content don't match up. Your pics look like large illusions while your text is about kid shows. Also, your deluxe package includes balloons and face painting and I didn't see any pictures of those activities.

2. Label your videos with what they are. Is video 1, promo with testimonials and video 2 live footage? I didn't click on them as a consumer because I didn't know what I would be watching, and I didn't like the idea of a pop-up. (Think if a parent is cruising the site at work....)

3. Which brings me to testimonials. I hope you have some on the video, because I didn't see any on the site! I know you've got them, include them.

4. I'm assuming you've gone with that particular domain name for SEO purposes, but you should also buy dynamike.com and brand that domain name so your clients remember you, while linking it to the SEO heavy domain you already have.

5. The flash did take a long time to load...your designer should be able to do something about that.

6. Your contact info should be prominent on every page! and your contact me page should be labeled just that, "contacts" means people you know!

7. I think your content could do a better job of selling you and of being warm and inviting...however, it is hard to make specific changes because I believe it was written with SEO in mind...

Good luck! I hope this helps!

Another thought I had...unless you are a top hat and wand magician avoid that cliche and see if you can't come up with a better graphic to respresent YOU on the home page. Perhaps the live animals that you use, or a an animation of one of your signature tricks?

Just a thought.

I agree. That is one thing I am going to work on.

The present videos are only temporary. Floyd is helping me put the new ones together. A lot of it deals with the info I received from the members in the "video" thread I started earlier.

I agree. That is one thing I will put on video.

You are right about why I have the present domain name. Dynamke.com is already taken.

I will see what he'll say.

It is already listed on the bottom of every page. I might have them enlarged. Thank you for he education.

Bingo. You are right again.

Mike,

Just had more surgery, so I'm stuck typing one handed.

Font should be larger...

Children specialist, or children's specialist? Detroit is mis-spelled. Does anyone care if you were a prodigy... and in what? Make your event colorful? How about sizzle or some other action/positive adjective? Stayed on top of what?

Stand miracles? Did you mean stage miracles?

About you: the subject of your sentence should be you, not the magic set:
Dynamike received a magic set when he was 12; he soon found he had a natural talent for entertaining with magic. Don't say you enjoyed tricking people more than they enjoyed being entertained... makes you sound like a guy who chases down people and assaults them with card tricks.

Find a writer to polish and proof-read your material.

Photo of you and the rabbit: crop the image so it's a close-up of you and the bunny nose to nose... it's a good shot, but seeing you head to butt doesn't add to the image.

Hope there's something you can use in these comments.

Dynamike,

I am a writer and I would be happy to improve your content a little bit. I will charge you something reasonable just to cover my time so I can get it to you quickly. (I'm a busy woman!) AND if you are not happy with we throw it away and you don't pay.

PM me if you are interested. However, I will be writing warm, exciting text to sell you--I can't and don't promise SEO results.

I did see some of the grammar mistakes you mentioned, but not all of them. Thank you very much.

Good idea about the picture. I kept looking at it myself. I kept telling myself it looks small. I am surprised I never thought of enlarging it. I will tell my web designer. Thanks again.

Hmm the style and photos do not match up with the template....
Message: Posted by: monstercreations (Oct 2, 2009 07:14PM)
All that text content you have won't get picked up by google.... its in Flash!

There is a way to get around it.
Message: Posted by: MikeClay (Oct 3, 2009 07:53PM)
The way around it.. with layers..

Google considers webspam acourding to Matt Cutts

the text won't get picked up unless your breaking Google terms
the advantage.. this is not a high traffic industry so you probably won't get caught
Message: Posted by: Dynamike (Oct 3, 2009 09:13PM)
Do you know someone who can do it?
Message: Posted by: MikeClay (Oct 4, 2009 12:37AM)
Its simple.. you use CSS and build 2 layers..

1 layer is a html page with good content.. and the one on top is the flash..

and you do this for each page.. but it is BAD to do..
and will get you banned from Google if they catch it..

I test these things all the time..
burned 3 domain names like this..

Please take my comments as constructive to improving your site and not personal. You're shooting yourself in the foot with a flash site. A work around is not the way to go. Mike Clay has it right.

Here are some comments:

The flash looks like a cheap flash template.

The sound elements are annoying and sound like an 80's video game.
(Yes I know I can shut the sound off, but it doesn't add anything to the site's content, so why include it and make the customer have to deal with it in the first place?)

With Flash you cannot bookmark a specific page.

You can't do SEO on a specific page. For example if you wanted to do mentalism, you don't have a separate page that can optimized for that.

The main consistent focus on the site is the top hat & wand at the top of page. Why is that there? Why isn't it a photo of you? You're selling YOU.

There is nothing wrong with some flash elements on a website - like a header image, but the whole site? I have to ask WHY? Are you doing it for ego? Is it because that's what YOU want? Are you thinking of potential customers?

I haven't researched the Detroit magic scene online, so your site may be heads & shoulders above the rest in your area, but all it's going to take is a couple of guys who want to get aggressive with their sites to knock your out.

If you insist on keeping the all Flash site, at least do yourself one small favor and change the page title: ...::Dynamike::... Master Magician isn't going to help your SEO.

Finally, while it's been posted here many times, by me and others, even though Google doesn't use Keyword Meta Tags, other search engines might and if you're going to include meta tags, you should do them correctly. Yours are wrong. The coding is wrong and you have too many of them.

I like your tips guys. I do believe in what you are describing too. But I do not know how to do it. So please stop pointing your fingers at me. Point me to someone who is a professional at doing it so I can represent it to him/her.

Ok

easy solution to your problem

goto IThemes.com and get Titanium (I like flex also)

get a graphics person to edit it so it is uniquely yours

get web hosting that has a cpanel
(I like hostgator.com)

use the 3 click wordpress install and upload your theme and activate it..

then get the graphis person to tweak it to your new look

Wordpress will give you control of your website and is built in a way search engines LOVE IT

if you decide to go this way let me know.. I have a few things you can add to wordpress to make it even more powerful
Message: Posted by: Dynamike (Oct 4, 2009 03:51PM)
Does Bluehost.com have a cpanel too?
Message: Posted by: MikeClay (Oct 4, 2009 05:06PM)
Yes log into your control panel and scroll down till you see
Fantastico De Luxe
click there and go install wordpress

and you will be on your way
Message: Posted by: Dynamike (Oct 4, 2009 05:25PM)
Thanks. I installed the latest stable of wordpress. (I think)

I'm stuck on a "profile" page of wordpress. I try to leave by clicking "profile update" at the bottom, but it will not let me leave that page. Did I break something?

And by the way, is wordpress one of the webpages like login, twitter, face book, etc? If not what is wordpress? I am all mixed up.

I do not understand how to secure my stuff. Am I setting myself up for hackers, key loggers, virus, etc?

The default wordpress login is at

/wp-admin/

it updates the page and returns you to editing..
your next step is to get a theme installed and let it become your home page
