Topic: Jimmy Nelson Celebration at Vent Haven ConVENTion
Message: Posted by: kidshowvent (Jan 15, 2011 08:13AM)
Hi brother and sister vents..

Just a quick post to see how many of you think you may be able to come to our 35th. annual Vent Haven International Ventriloquists' ConVENTion. This year is a special tribute to JIMMY NELSON..the guy responsible for many of us taking up vent. Jimmy is a true vent superstar and the last of the Big 5 Vents (the others being Edgar Bergen, Shari Lewis, Paul Winchell, and Senor Wences). It's going to be a SUPER conVENTion with lots of learning, 28 dealers, and of course, special film clips (some rarely if ever seen) about Jimmy and his long, successful career. This is going to be a big event. The dates are July 13-16 in Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky (close to Cincinnati, OH) and part of the conVENTion is a trip to see the fabulous Vent Haven Museum. The VHM is the largest collection in the world on vent with three buildings full of memorabilia, photos, figures, playbill, theater posters..you name it.

I agree with Mark. Jimmy is the epitome of all that is good about this art form. In years past I have observed the kind hearted way that he will take time with any Vent who asks him a question, from the youngest to the oldest. It will be our priviledge to take part in this years celebration of his life and career. A true Gentleman in every sense of the word.

Mark, I just sent you a message here at the Café...

Maybe we could induce Mark to give the group a heads-up on when this years applications will be available on the ConVENTion website and also to explain anything he can on the new PayPal system for those who may not be familiar with this new feature.

Every year when the applications come out, I lose a little over 100 pounds, because once I get the application done my wife gets off of my back - lol.

Thanks in advance Mark.

Hi everyone. Yes, I'll give all of you on Magic Café an advanced "heads up" on when things should be happening. The brochures should be out in about a week and a half, and we'll have the entire schedule online probably next week. PayPal will be available this year and will work the same as last year, but I will try to post something very soon about it's functions.

Ony, I am sending your letter tomorrow..and Colin, not to worry , my friend. We take good care of all our attendees..we even have a short orientation to fill the "newbies" in on what to expect, where to go, restaurant schedule, etc.

I'm really looking forward to meeting many of you from Magic Café that I haven't had the pleasure to meet in person. Neale helps with the ConVENTion as well as Tom Crowl, and they both do a great job for the cause. I'd like to invite all of you to come. If you'd like a brochure mailed to you please email my your regular ("snail mail") address and I'll put you on the list.

Man oh man! Are you first timers in for it!
In for a great time that is!
I've only been once, in 2005, and it was so great just being there, I vividly remember every bit of it still.

Lisa,

We look forward to meeting you, but don't bother to come if you don't bring little Lili - lol

Steve,
Lily has already been telling me what she wants to wear!! I would be in BIG trouble if I didn't bring her along!! :)

You have to bring at least one puppet partner for the group shot by the pool which is followed by what I call the puppet meet an greet.
Message: Posted by: Steve at The Dummy Shoppe (Jan 18, 2011 12:12PM)
Neale is right. But then after the group photo, there are individual photos to be done with each maker and vents with puppets obtained through that maker. It is the most exhausting 3-4 days you will ever love.

I'd love to bring my dragon but he's just too big. I'd have no luggage left.
