Topic: COINUCOPIA ebook - Mentalism with Coins by Mark Goodman
Message: Posted by: BMWGuy (Mar 16, 2011 03:29PM)
Hey guys,

If you all ever wanted to do mentalism with coins, for those of you that don't do coins in their work, or simply looking for fresh, new ideas.....this ebook has them.

I don't know Mark, and he gracefully sent me a copy to review, and I will be 100% honest and unbiased.

I typically don't like coin work in mentalism, since I don't use any, I use billets, cards, predictions, etc etc, but not coins.

Anyways, so I had a read through to his new ebook, and I must say I enjoyed his approach and thinking.

Here is what you get:

You get an 88 page ebook with 6 effects, and 2 bonus effects.
The book starts out with an introduction and background for each effect, and Mark guides you on the why he thinks a certain way plot.

The first effect you encounter is called Pelf Awareness and it is an ungimmicked which coin effect?
It has 3 phases: 1) You will guess which coin was chosen
2) Which hand it lies in
3) The date on the coin.
Mark gives extensive information on this one trick alone, and also provides proper crediting as well as information.
The second effect is similar and it is called MINTED, but the method is very different, basically 3 imaginary coins, and you guess lots of pieces of information.
This is my favorite from the ebook!
The third effect is the Lie detector test effect, called CoinUndrum----like Banacheks Ring of Truth
Soft Currency: Mark then goes over a coin bend, and what he does to make the image sink in, that the coin is bending on his fingertips.
FlipSide: Coin toss in which you control the outcome every time, or he spectator can as well.
Proof Positive is my second favorite, and uses a business card and coins.....based on Max maven effect
The 2 bonuses are:
Underhanded ---shows you how to build a gimmick in doing the which hand, which he did not use in other effects explained above
The Truth Will Out ----truthteller/liar premise again but with a different handling.

All in all, this book is well thought out, has extensive info on the effects mentioned, gives proper quoting, references, as well as credits.

This is a nice book on coins in mentalism.

I will use 2 of the effects immediately!

Rating: 8/10

Reason being that although I am not a coin guy, Mark gives lots of info to get you wanting to start using coins in mentalism...plus I will use two of the 8 effects!

Alex

First of all I must say that I am a fan of Marks thinking since his last release.

I also have read the first effect "Pelf Awareness" from Marks second ebook.

This adds greatly to the toolbox of Which hand effects! Excellent thinking!

The second effect, Minted, was already released in his first ebook Harbingers and since then I used a variation of this!

Some parts of Pelf Awareness will definetly find their way into my work as well!

I will write a more comprehensive review as far as I have read the whole ebook and tested the material!

Wow, I have to chime in again. I just took a quick look at "Flipside" which caught my attention after reading BMWGuys review. After reading "Pelf Awareness" and starting to work it into my Which hand effect I had to go for Flipside and it is BRILLIANT.

I first had a few problems to understand the exact procedure due to my native language which is not english. But following the description with a coin in my hand it was more then easy to make it work and I fooled myself with it. Did it just in front of the mirror and it looks so f*****g fair and inconspicuous.

Imagine you can control the toss of coin every single time. Combine this with other predictable coin toss effects and you have enough material to entertain a groud for a long time. Can't believe the simplicity of "Flipside".

As I already said, Marks first ebook convinced me of the high quality of his thinking and this ebook will be as good if not better than the previous one!!!

Mike and Dominik - Thank you so much for your comments.

I am a fan of Mark's thinking. I have been quite (overly)busy so I haven't read more than the first twenty pages. That said, the "new to me" which hand nuances were VERY nice. I wanted to have a chance to be using those before I commented. (I also wanted to finish the ebook...which I shall). I agree that mentalism with coins is a welcome expansion in our field of study and Mark always has clever ideas with quite quite explanations. I am a fan.

I will post more once I've finished, but these great ideas are no surprise to me.

Regards,

Sean

Just reading this great piece for a third time. I come back to Marks ebook from time to time and it is always a joy to read!

I think that his release is a little overlooked. There are other threads with much more hype for much worse releases.

Thumbs up again for your great work Mark!!!

This material looks great! I purchased this e-book December 30, 2014 and unfortunately haven't received it yet. I have tried contacting Mr. Goodman various times, but have not received any response. If anyone knows how I might be able to reach him, please let me know.

Best,

That's a shame..I was just looking at this the other day and was considering it. Now, not so sure. Customer service is more important to me than a good trick ;)

Edit: I just shot him an email asking if I were to purchase if it could be sent out in a timely manner and the email bounced....so not sure. That's too bad, because I was looking forward to reading this.

Yeah, I was told to try the email, mhgoodman@hotmail.com. It doesn't bounce back, but I haven't gotten any response from it.

I will try that one as well. I was trying the one on the website and the one that appears to be linked to the PayPal Cart/store on the site.

Mark Goodman did eventually get in touch with me and sent his e-book. It has good content. I have performed Minted once and it went over well. With more practice of the presentation, I think it will be a great addition to my tricks. The book is written as if the magician is using British coinage, but he does address using American coinage too. I made a couple simple adjustments that streamline the effect to suit me and the coins that I usually have with me. It is a fun one to perform.

While this is unsolicited advice, I am going to go ahead and give it. It helped me in learning the effects to record myself reading through the patter of the effect and going through the motions in order to better remember the flow of the effect. Magic involves a number of subtleties that make or break an effect and more still is that the case in mentalism. Just reading the effect made it difficult to keep in mind all of the subtleties that contribute to the success of the effect. Enjoyed the book!
