Topic: There are only three ways to book your show |

I saw someone mention the book, "There are only three ways to book your show," by David Ginn and I was wondering if anyone has read it. If so do you recommend it? I am judging the book by its cover as that is the only thing I can see. It shows images of a letter, a phone, and a handshake. So, I am assuming it means the three ways to book your show are via direct mail, phone solicitation and one on one meeting. I am weary to buy this book, even at its low $15 price, because I fear it does not mention the internet, email, social media, or anything electronic. Does anybody have any reviews of the book? Thanks Edd |

It was written in 1996. So, no, he doesn't really address websites, email, social media, etc. Even fax machines only get a brief mention. I suppose that something like email and faxes could fit the parameters of mailed promotion. Also note. The actual book title is "The Only 3 Ways To Book Your Show." I liked the book. But I also liked David Ginn's other books, such as "Promoting Me and You II", and Sammy Smith's books, "Sell Your Act with Letters", "Sell Your Act with Posters", "Sell Your Act with Brochures and Flyers" and his tape sets "Booking Yourself" and "Make it Happen." I recognize the fact that they were written at a certain time, and view them with those glasses. - Donald |

That is a shortcoming in many magic book descriptions is the lack of a publishing date. Edd |

These products also seem to be along the line of Dick Ryan's Confidential Booking Reports Vol. 1, 2, & 3. slightly dates but still quite applicable today. |

If you go to David's website ( http://www.ginnmagic.com/ ), then click on "About David Ginn", and then click on "Book List", you'll get a list of the books he's written along with the publishing year. - Donald |

So it's no longer the only three ways to book ... it is still valuable information from someone who books LOTS of shows every year. Much of it is dated, like the remark that "... the long distance bills pile up." There are not many long-distance charges in today's world. And the information on sources for printing, for example, may be dated. Still, there's a lot of information that, with a little thought, can be updated. For $15, I think I'd buy it again. |
