Topic: Cody and his new Tim Cowles body
Message: Posted by: Aussie (Mar 19, 2012 10:48PM)
I really like Cody, but to be honest the Kem Poyner body leaves a lot to be desired. Basically it's a poorly constructed fibreglass body in two parts which looks as though it was hastily stuck together. The finish is very rough and Cody's body has begun to come "unstuck" where Kem has joined the two pieces together with over lapping fibreglass.

I contacted Kem to ask about a new body and he advised to go to a hardware store and buy a fibreglass mending kit instead. Not being satisfied with what I considered a band-aid solution I approached several vent builders about getting a body. This was pretty tough as I'm in Australia and they're all in the U.S. so I really just had to trust their advice when it came to the correct sizing and so forth.

One of the people I contacted was Tim Cowles who was amazingly helpful and told me he had sold a few of his bodies for Kem Poyner "Bobby" figure owners several times. He assured me that his body was suitable so I ordered one from him.

So here is Cody with his new Tim Cowles body. He looks great! The hands are amazing with so much more details and far lighter in weight than his original body.

This is the body I ordered from Tim..

Cody didn't like his new outfit so after sorting through his wardrobe he decided on something more casual...

This is Cody's original Kem Poyner body. As you can see it really needed replacing Kem doesn't do good vent figure bodies very well in my opinion.

The one detail about the Timothy Cowle body is the neck hole. Given it is not as recessed as the Poyner body and is more of a natural body shape with a waist line Cody's head and neck looked slightly out of proportion (the Poyner figures have a larger "characture" type head). The solution was to give Cody's new body extra shoulders which adds more width and height to the upper body.

So here he is, Cody all complete with his new body. I'm very happy with the result.

Thanks everyone :)

I'm now considering getting Cody a pair of the Timothy Cowles Classic Bare Feet so he can wear sandals or long shorts during the Summer months.

What do you think?

I like the Bare Feet design. I would also like to have these on my Selberg Max figure. I would get these if they are lightweight and durable.

Well if the hands are anything to go by I'm sure they are. Cody's Poyner hands were quite heavy and with little detail, whereas the Cowles hands are much lighter very much detailed.

I'm ordering the feet today :)

I had a Poyner Bobby also. I thought the character was great but the body and hands were poorly done. I didn't care about the feet because I had him in shoes, but I would have liked the feet to turn out in a more natural position. Those Cowles feet look great!

I got a pair of bare feet from Mike Brose but the Cowles version are really nice :)

Is Timothy Cowles still selling vent figures? And what is his website?

And this puppet looks great, especially with the new body!

The one in my avatar in case you are interested :)

I have ordered the feet tonight from Timothy Cowles. It took me a while because I've just completed an inter State move and had to wait several weeks for the Internet to be connected. As soon as I have them I will post pics here.

So did you get the feet yet? How do you like them? Any pics?

He said 4 weeks so I assume I will get it next month yet.

Awesome new body! The audience never sees the body directly, but vents like to know their figure has a nice looking body underneath their clothing. I think the arms are a tad short on the old body. I like arms that hang sightly below the seat, like on the new one. Highly sculptured feet can be great if you're planning a barefoot character, but they can be a problem if you want to put shoes on him,. I wouldn't get rid of the old body. It still looks serviceable and you can probably sell it on eBay.

That's a great figure. Kem and tim are both very clever. I lean slightly more towards Tim's work for my tastes though.

Woohooo! I received my Tim Cowles Bare Feet 2 days ago. That was a long wait. They are well made, realistic and comical. I can't wait to attach it to my Max Selberg figure.
Any ideas on how I should do this? I was thinking of attaching velcro so I can connect the feet of my choice.

With sandals:

Bare Feet:

Close Up and Side View of Feet:

I had to shade some of the parts of the toes to make it more defined.

Nice!!!

I have the Brose feet... I find the Cowles version much nicer! :)

Wow they DO look awesome. Tim's creating a set on a whole new body for me.

I took out the sock to show more of the knee caps. I need to repaint them again. In that way, my figure can wear shorter shorts.
I noticed that this feet are made out of hard latex. I expected it to be made out of resin and fiberglass to be stronger and lighter.

Ok, I just installed the new bare feet today. I had to repaint the hands to match the leg skin tone. I also painted on the knee caps.
I had to find some shorts from my son's old clothes.

About 3 months and a week.

Just curious . What are the feet made of? Made from a mold ( or mould for those that speak the Queens English :) )?
Message: Posted by: Aussie (Oct 17, 2012 09:02PM)
I'm not sure, I know they're not wooden though.
Message: Posted by: Dickens & Dave (Oct 17, 2012 10:38PM)
They are cast from a mold, the exact material he uses, I do not know.
Message: Posted by: Lou Hilario (Oct 18, 2012 06:17PM)
I think they are cast from a mold. The material looks like hard latex. It's a bit heavy.
Message: Posted by: Dickens & Dave (Oct 19, 2012 08:18AM)
Really, you think yours are heavy?
Maybe he's making them differently now because mine are pretty light.

LOL that was fast. I'm still waiting and I've emailed him several times, but not getting any responses... and people complain because Selberg take so long to create a complete figure
