Topic: The OHM System
Message: Posted by: Christopher Taylor (Jun 4, 2012 03:23PM)
Patrick Redford, Ran Pink and Colin McLoud were sitting outside the casino pub at the 2010 MindVention when they first saw OHM presented. I used a dry-erase pen to make a dot on the table and asked Patrick to simply think of a card (there were no cards present before, during or after the effect). With my back turned, I asked him to press his thought onto the dot. I then turned around, wiped the dot off and told him the card he was thinking of. Here is what Colin had to say:

"if you're not using a confederate then that is absolutely incredible and I have no idea how you're doing that! What, no confederate ... I'm off for a cry."

Here are just a few other presentation possibilities:
• Chair Test: three participants each secretly choose one of three items; performer knows who chose what (Patrick’s Idea.)
• PK-Taste: with 6 BORROWED cups.
• Thought Projection: The Performer thinks of a card that a spectator is able to see projected onto a blank card; the spectator then projects her own thought onto another blank card for the performer to see.
• Living or Dead: Participant unerringly divides a stack of photographs into survivors and victims.
• Force a single object out of any number of objects on a table (photos, cards, coins, etc)
• PK-Smell, with IMAGINARY flowers.

And here are the first two demo videos (with more to come):
Extreme Out of This World: http://youtu.be/S2N0h9QSwcU

Scrying Out Loud: http://youtu.be/MT0GHECoEEo

You can learn more about the OHM System here: http://www.taylorimagineering.com/products/ohm.php

OHM will be ready for shipping about mid July, 2012.

Genuinely when I saw this I couldn't fathom it.

Why made it worse was, when I was shown how it worked, I still couldn't fathom it.

In the right hands, this is deadly!!

That was almost two years ago. I can only imagine what he's done with it since then.

I watched Christopher perform this twice at that Mindvention and both times I was left scratching my head wondering, "What just happened???".

It turns out that the "how" is just as amazing as the "what" :)

I'm not sure how much more I should say, except that Christopher has such a brilliant mind and I'm amazed with the effects that are possible with Ohm.

I just looked it up and I remember it now. I think you are correct, it will blend well with OHM. The method I used to cause the symbol to appear on the paper when it is immersed in water is quite old. I first saw it described by Harry Stanley in"MAGIC OF THE MIND", published in 1960. It is fully in the public domain now as is evident from this: http://www.parentsconnect.com/do/writing_on_wall.jhtml

Great to see that Christopher is working hard to finally release this gem!

I have seen it grow and change many times and this has been in the works for certainly a few years to my knowledge. It is not just a single effect but a way to create multiple effects, moments and ideas. A veritable system as it were.

From what I have seen over the years and the insider knowledge that I have on OHM I would say this is set to become Christopher's flagship creation to date....very very exciting stuff here folks.

OHM is crazy cool. That is an understatment. I was sitting with Colin when Christopher hit us with this amazing...well...OHM.

Some clarification is needed about set up and handling the sensors:

When working with several sensors, they are placed into, or under, locations of your choice. Once placed, you power them on but they will not sense and transmit until you remotely activate them. All of the sensors are configured to the one activator you receive in the kit. You can get another activator and then configure specific sensors to be activated by a specific activator.

Jan, let me know if we should combine orders....you know why! :)
Message: Posted by: Dr Spektor (Jun 10, 2012 09:40AM)
You could also do an entire set up of a room you leave.... the premise is a murder or other traumatic event occurred in the room... it has left psychic residue or whatever you wish to call it... all you ask is the person choose to do certain things in the room in whatever they want.... e.g. open up a jewelry box in location x... pick up weapon y on a table nearby... examine a picture with a person from the historic situation... open a window... and you have a file sitting in the room locked... that when you return you open it up and withdraw a police report/newspaper article/whatever that describes in order the sequence that the historic event happened and freak the hell out of the people... follow up with seance if you wish to finally cleanse the room.

All for entertainment purposes of course.

Bravo CT - another amazing winner. I look forward to building some terrifying presentations with it.

....hmm... you can even use the stuff to prove the existence of a Pookah like Harvey who witnessed everything for a comedy sketch...

You can have different items such as a key, pen, lip balm, notepad on the table. While yor back is turned a person can select any item and raise it in the air. You can the nname the item rasied. There are a lot of possibilities with this system.

and
- Know what cup an item is put under
- Know what cup an item is taken from
- Know in what order items are taken or placed
- Know what card/sign/object is covered with a hand

Is there an introduction price?

What is the size of the receiver?

Why is it not compatibly with the wonderful, very small Promistic receiver, so I don't have to use a different receiver again and again

But I will try a new discusion. What do U think will be better Ohm or Evolution from Craig, because I think both will
work with same principle.
Message: Posted by: Christopher Taylor (Jul 15, 2012 11:01AM)
While at FISM, I did sell out of OHM. John Archer came by and recommended a very cool routine using six clear cups with different liquids such as water, tea, vinegar, etc. The participant dips a finger into one to taste and the performer instantly knows which is being tasted. Another mentalist suggested 6 different wines. Very nice, I thought.

I suppose comparisons between Evolution and OHM are inevitable. They do work on SIMILAR (not the same) principles but the application of the two systems is quite different. Each has its strengths and those looking to make a choice should, of course, examine the various features each has to offer with your venue and style in mind. As far as making the comparison myself, I am not really qualified. For example, I do not know what thickness of material Evolution can sense through; if it can sense through water; if it can be used under a table to sense borrowed objects; if it can throw a large enough field outside of a container (such as a book or card box) to monitor a deck of cards or bowl of water, if one sensor can be used to monitor the entire width of a table or whiteboard or blackboard; all of which OHM can do.

I appreciate that it is not really the place to compare Ohm and Evolution, and I am particularly unqualified to do so, owning, as I do, neither system. That said, I have been contemplating purchashing one and I find myself drawn more to Ohm than to Evolution. What I find particularly attractive about Ohm is the apparent potential for seemingly impromptu feats of mentalism on the fly. While I am sure there are clever ways to use evolution in everyday items that might "happen" to be lying around, the variety of effects you can do with ohm on the fly using a single set up is appealing, as is the physical invisibility of the transmitter (other than a stage mentalist, who happens to have five identical wallets lying around?). To my mind, Evolution seems more geared towards to stage/medium sized group, rather than close-up/one on one work. These thoughts probably reflect a misunderstanding on my part about the possibilities of Evolution, but so be it. If I'm wrong then please say so, and let's discuss this no further.

:loss: This admission might be the kiss of death for my company but I feel I owe it to my customers to remain honest and completely above board. My company has been the victim of a scam perpetuated by one of my formally trusted component suppliers; after finding that I place regular order to them, they have been feeding me substandard components in a effort to squeeze a little extra profit out of me. These parts easily pass my quality testing befor I ship but they soon die after a period of regular use. So, what does this mean? Well, it means I am unable to restock 6th Scent or OHM until further notice while I work on redesign. My other products are not effected by this.

I hope that those of you who have shown appreciation of my approach to mentalism will stay tuned and trust that I will overcome this blow.

All the best,

I'am sure Christopher will take care of every customer.

Kind regards

I want to offer a huge thank-you to those who have offered words of encouragement, both here and privately. I fully intend to work with anyone who experiences a problem with my products on an individual basis. I am conducting more tests on the units I still have on hand as I there are sure to find a few "cherries" among them which I will use to replace any individual problem units that are reported to me. I'll mention this on the thread that specifically deals with this as well.

Anyone knows if the problems Christopher have with the supplier of the electronic parts have been solved? I placed an order and have written to Christopher a couple of time but have yet to hear from him.

After a much too long delay due to the substandard component supply issue, OHM is ready to go again. The units now have new batteries and a a new kind of receiver. Thanks to all who have been waiting.

All the best,

Christopher

Christopher that's great news. I 've just checked ot the demo videos on you're site and I have one question, can all the effects shown work with the basic Ohm kit or do you have to buy the more expensive ones? Also I would like more info on the payment terms you mentioned on you're site perhaps you could P.M. me with this.

I remember sitting with Christopher in a diner over coffee while I was on tour with our international street performer's festival some 15 to 20 years ago...if I had known then, I would have sold my soul and invested in his work, as he has shown to be both ethical in his business as well as being a nice guy. Congratulations, Christopher, on your successes, and I look very forward to getting out of poverty in order to send you money...OHM first, and then the list goes on...

:fyi: Just received this note regarding the new OHM receivers:

Hi Christopher,

I just want to say that I got the new receiver you sent me. I've been playing around with OHM for the last few days and I couldn't be more pleased with it - it works just fine!

I'll be taking it out into the real world for the first time tonight and I'm sure I'm going to blow a few people's minds!!

Thank you very much Christopher for an excellent product and of course your first class service.

Cheers,

Terry Strong

I have a quick question about this. I have seen a few mentions on here (some from Mr. Taylor, himself, some from other people) so I was hoping to get a little clarification. Can owners of Sixth Scent (with the newer receiver) use that receiver for OHM? I saw it mentioned, but didn't see a response to that. I also noticed Mr. Taylor mentioned how a single receiver couldn't perform all the necessary functions, across the board. Just looking for a little clarity to help my simple mind.

On the topic of the receiver - I contacted Mr. Taylor about a problem with one of my transmitters, and in passing mentioned I was having trouble with the receiver. Not only did Mr. Taylor solve my issue with the transmitter, he sent the new receiver without question, explaining the situation. His service is absolutely incredible. I can't speak for others, but I find this to be a very rare commodity outside the magic world, so I make a point to praise the people who go out of their way to help customers.

Hi Demitri: Thank you for the kind words. Regarding the question on using the 6th Scent receiver with OHM, I have sent you a PM as I do not want to give specific details on function in an open forum. Cheers.

For the "free will effect" - is there something special that needs to be removed or ditched at the end? Anything attached to be removed from the objects at the end?

I was unfamilar with Ohm and just came across it now...

No. You do not have to remove anything from the objects.
I have this for several months and it got great reaction every time.
