Topic: Let's make a resolution
Message: Posted by: jay leslie (Dec 30, 2012 11:01PM)
This year I resolve to use tricks and effects the audience likes and not be a minimalist, because funds are tight.

I will do the best I can at whatever
I set out to do.

I will use the (good) effects I have to make better magic...
and spend less time looking for "perfect" effects to make good magic.

+1 :)

I'm setting out to do just that. 12 gigs at a comedy club booked this spring and everything old is new again! :)

Happy New Year everybody!

I am not sure what not being a minimalist means?

One who does NOT advocate a moderate or conservative approach, action, or policy.
Being or providing MORE than a minimum of what is necessary.

OH ok. Good. I was thinking that my entire act is based upon being a "minimulist" because I do so much with so little. That was what created my confussion.

So he is saying "under promise and over deliver" and I LIKE THAT!!!

Glad I asked. See I learned something!

I'll stick with Duke Tumatoe's words: "Wherever you go, whatever you do, please try not to suck."
Message: Posted by: Leland (Jan 1, 2013 02:23PM)
I will not use an effect until it is performance ready.
Message: Posted by: Tony Thomas (Jan 1, 2013 02:42PM)
I will only use my superpowers for good, and not for evil!
Message: Posted by: Blindside785 (Jan 1, 2013 10:41PM)
I will complete my 3 sets of 3 tricks (Jamie D. Grant) with just A material, I'm almost done doing that.

I will actually start working on putting together a 40-minute parlour act together :)

I'm pretty much a hobbyist, aside from a gig every now and then, but I want to be a darn good hobbyist.

I resolve to be less of a jerk on the Café.

I resolve to be more of a jerk on the Café'.

Also, I will make the same resolution that I've made for the past 10-12 years. Learn a memorized deck stack. It used to be Aronson's but now it could be Aronson's or Tamariz'. I'm fairly flexible on which stack I'll fail to incorporate. I'm sure I will be making the same resolution in 2014.

Alan, is that Duke Tomatoe and The All-Star Frogs? I've seen them perform a bunch of times. Always fun!!!

But you did!

My resolution is to practice more with just coins, cards, and a TT. I also want to record my routines and show them on the Café so I can get some constructive feedback.

My resolution was simply to get back into magic again. I made it a bit early, but so far, so good.

(and many thanks to all you folks here who have reminded me of things I had forgotten, inspired me to try new things, generously offered your knowledge, and just amused the socks right offa me on many occasions.)

Patrick... that's a great resolution no matter what kind of entertainer you are! the last free show I gave (as a Ukulele Ace) was for someone who was trying to save their house from foreclosure. still looking for another one but I'll be sure and grab it no matter which show (music or magic) I give.

Every once in a while I do a show for the kids at a cancer ward.
The staff rolls them- in, some without arms and legs, and all of them looking so very sad.
That is a Very difficult show to start performing but in ten minutes they are all laughing and having a good time.

It's not only a difficult show to begin... it's even harder to say you have to leave.

My resolution is to get promoted to a mime. However I am not allowed to talk about that.
